I went on the wait list around Sept 2008, and just got invited to join. Very good news.

I am a bit disappointed that the rules say no centerfire rifles though. I don't recall seeing that rule when I put my name on the list. Is it a new rule? I had hoped to have a place to shoot pistols and my AR.

One other question for current members, just so I'm clear, are there bays at DPC where you can set up your own IDPA style practice scenario and draw from holster and shoot on the move?

You are correct, no centerfire riles. You can use a .22 upper on your AR to practice.
There are also a few other rules - there are some pistol calibers that you cannot shoot - ex FN 5.7
You also cannot shoot pistol caliber carbines - ex your Kel-Tec Sub2000 or AR in 9mm etc..
You cannot shoot shotguns, except at the SD shotgun matches.
You can draw from holster, move, rapid fire, use barricades, etc.
I think the rifle rule is because of zoning and that is the only way they can keep the range open. There is a range south of Dallas that does allow everything, though its a bit farther.

Well, for one thing, once you renew, the price is right if you do a lot a shooting. Even if you don't, it still works out to be cheaper than going to a commercial range. The members are all nice... at least as nice as me.. maybe nicer. It's kind of like... a club!

Being in the middle of the DFW Metroplex does present some significant challenges for a gun club. We do have facilities that are within 5-600 yards of the club in the direction we shoot in, so we are very careful to try to keep all our rounds inside the club property.

A lot of people are quite miffed when told that we do NOT allow any firearm's muzzle to be pointed over the dirt berm. That means that the firearm can never be pointed up at an angle of more than about 5 degrees for most ranges. Most competitive shooters are taught to bring the firearm up in front of their face when performing a tactical reload which points the muzzle up at about 45+ degrees. This a BIG NO-NO at DPC and will get you disqualified from a match or kicked out if caught practicing by yourself. BUT, if you can learn our safety rules, you can shoot anywhere and be safe. At other shooting discipline matches, IDPA or IPSC, I always hear of someone getting DQed from a match. It is most likely that they let a round get out of the range property. We try to make sure that doesn't happen at DPC.

We do not allow rifle fire except for .22 rimfire rifles. We have a .22 carbine match every 2nd Sunday where people shoot their AR's with a .22 conversion kit, or a .22 upper, or a plain 10-22. Its a lot of fun. No centerfire rifles are allowed for obvious reasons concerning our location.

We have just added a few new calibers for use at the range. We now allow .22 Rem Jet (soft point only), 5.7x28 (soft point only), and 327 Federal, 454 Casull, and 480 Ruger. Sorry, but 500 S&W has not yet been approved.

And, finally, we have 5 combat action bays (about 13 yards deep) and a 100 yard silhouette range where you can shoot up close, giving you a 40 to 50 yard deep action bay. We have steel targets, paper target stands, and barricades so you can set up whatever you want to practice with. We also allow drawing and rapid fire shooting which will get you kicked out of any indoor range I'm aware of.

All of the above and we have several competition matches every month: 2 steel, 2 paper, a 22 carbine, and a tactical shotgun.
