Keith made some good observations. I would add however that a large dude in chaps and a vest, bearded with tatts will raise an alarm level rather a gun is visible or not, but the point is well taken. Transfer that to a nerdy looking guy with darting eyes and nervous habits OCing and I believe you will have the same result to a lesser degree maybe. Or more commonly a middle Eastern looking type with his "Jihad couture" on. Regardless of his intent or legality he walks in with a gun and its fixin' to rain police. Buuuuut, let's look at those states that have recently gone to open carry, how many of those are plagued with MWAG calls or a rash of signs going up?

That is more research than I care to do at the moment, but I know NH had some hiccups that got straightened out pretty quickly. AZ has had it for a while so they wouldn't really figure into it as much. I just don't think there will be the knee jerk reaction that a lot of us fear. That said, parking lot first, campus carry next or at the same time and THEN we gradually turn up the heat.

In tactics there is the battle of inches. You when enough of those first and soon you are on solid footing for the final push. Shock and Awe won't carry well in the legislature...IMHO.

I will agree that a lot of it is appearances. I was wearing a suit one day a couple years ago with my gun in a comp-tac paddle holster, I was at restaurant in clear lake when a young waiter managed to lose a tray that had a pot of nice warm coffee all over a couple sitting in a booth. Needless to say both of them quickly lost part of their clothing trying to get it off of them as it was burning their skin. After it was all over and the lady was trying to recover and cover herself up I insticively gave her my jacket and exposed my weapon. While the manager was standing there I explained my reasoning and he said no problem. Along came an ambulance and the police with it, the HPD officer naturally talked to the manager before he got to the lady (where I and the EMT's were standing) and he told him the situation. Turns out both the manager and the officer were gun friendly and the only words said about my weapon were as the EMT's were clearing the scene and I got my coat back they both thanked me for "donating my coat" (as it was basically ruined) and if I wouldn't mind putting my gun in my car for the remainder of the meal so I wouldn't "scare anyone."

Point being no one in the restaurant freaked out at the sight of a firearm as we were waiting around for the situation to end (a good 30 minutes). I can only imagine what might have transpired if i were to have been wearing jeans a AC/DC tshirt and a banditos vest that I would have loaned to her.

Well, there was no PC30.06 sign when I went in . . . and as always, I darned well looked.

I see that once in a while in Denton County but not at all in Dallas County.

I see it almost daily here in Johnson county. My Sheriff is a western wear only guy 90% of the time. We have City and County Detectives and LEO's that OC some with and with out Visible badges.

The Rangers are always OC ing but if you live in TX long enough you KNOW a TX Ranger when you see one.

I can't say how many times I've seen officer's (don't know what dept) walking around Cleburne OCing and I usually have to look to find the badge on their belt.
Normal attire is a Sig on the belt, jeans, and a non-descript polo.

I don't see OC being a problem in JC
