Good carry options for um.. large-bodied people?

So, my current method of concealment won't work too well much longer since the weather is warming up fast, which has me wondering what other people have found as good options for concealment for those of us who are frankly fat.

All discussion of the merits of diet and exercise aside, I'm about 5'11, and 290, with a 48 waist. I tend to dress causally most of the time prior to getting the CHL (ex.. polos, tshirts, jeans, shorts, khakis). I've heard good things about the supertuck, but mostly from skinny people.

So, my large-bodied, more-to-love friends, what works?

Pocket, OWB, ankle.


I'm not even large bodied but I HATE IWB carry. I find it so uncomfortable. I've tried and tried but it still feels rediculous. I'll carry my P380 in a pocket or on my ankle if I cant conceal a G30 owb.

I'm a "robust" individual also 5'11" 260# 46" waist. I used to really dislike IWB until I tried a Supertuck. I carry a full size S&W M&P in it with no problems. It took a couple of days for the holster to set to my shape but now It feels like it's part of my pants. Your pants need to be a little looser to accommodate the extra bulk of the gun and holster. I still like OWB carry but the Supertuck has given me another option. I pocket carry my BUG it's the gun I always have on me.

Just kidding. The "belt pouch" works well.
I have a Hoffner's "camera pouch" - it's basically a more square version of a fannypack that you wear on your belt, doing away with the straps of the fannypack.
The use of a "real" gunbelt does a lot for comfort, and with the gun not digging into MWB (my waistbaind), the use of the pouch is the most comfortable of all the choices, however there is a post about a 5.11 "Holster Shirt" that has grabbed my attention.
(Just for the record, I plan on wearing a cover garment over the holster shirt - I'm afraid my gut might print bigtime.)
When I do use the pouch, I feel like I'm almost open carrying.
The Holster Shirt leaves no "hey, what's in the pouch?" questions./////////////////

I'm also pretty close to you in size...ain't ever been called skinny, that's for sure. I use a CBST to carry am XDm, and I really like it. Thinking about adjusting it to ride a little lower, but I've not been outted whole wearing it, except by the better half when she asked me what the clips were...I have the standard ones on there. (She didn't see the gun, mind you...and I was standing in the open drivers side door of my truck, leaned over to grab something off the passenger seat.... Which I only did because I knew she was behind me to block any 'overleaner's print.)

I've got a buddy who carries in one of those belly bands, and he loves it.

I'm about 5'11, and 290, with a 48 waist

I am just shy of 6' and go 275. 44" waist
I use a Crossbreed Minituck IWB at about 4:00 with my Taurus PT111.
It actually is quite comfortable.

I'm a big guy too. SuperTuck works well for me with Glocks. Or try MTAC. Might need pants one size larger. Also a dedicated gun belt is imperative to comfortable use of any IWB holster.

If that doesn't work, pocket carry a snub nose revolver or tiny semi-auto.

You are right, it's CARGO SHORTS and Guayabera shirt (Tall sizes for length, from Big/Tall seciotns of the stores) weather. I have both zippered and button shirts, buttons are better so you can leave bottom buttons unbuttoned.

I usually tuck a bunch of kleenexes in one lower front pocket of the shirt to make a kleenex bulge and leave a bit of that "hanky/handkerchiif" sticking out ... most people notice my shirt bulges and look away ... who wants to stare at Kleenex? I may have a wad of keys or something in the other lower shirt pocket ... I have bulges everywhere (intenionally) ...

I use IWB, MTac or Comfort Carry (with horsehide liner) or solid Kydex if I plan to sweat profusely or go swimming.
Backup Gun in Cargo pocket in the shorts in a pocket holster.

I'm shorter and fatter than all y'all (5'10", 300 lbs), and I carry in an MTAC quite frequently, which is a holster very similar to the Supertuck. Pistols carried in that holster include a 3" 1911, a 5" 1911, and a full sized M&P 45.

That said, I also have OWB holsters for all three of those pistols, plus shoulder holster rigs. This translates as "use whatever is comfortable for you, and dress accordingly."

"Dress accordingly" for me means untucked shirts at all times, and shorts, jeans, or slacks as necessary.

You can go IWB, or even OWB with the right clothing.
A freind of mine your size wears a Kimber Ultracarry II .45 OWB under a very light weight shirt, I never noticed it and I looked pretty closely
