Texas gov. shoots, kills 'wily' coyote during jog

The people complaining about shooting coyotes are ignorant of the realities of living in areas where coyotes are prevalent predators. They're too busy living in their cement jungle of a sheltered life.

I guess they haven't ever seen the inside out hide of their mangled family pet or livelihood in the yard We've had many a long night staking out property with shot guns. Grandma got very creative in her battles with coyotes on the property. I wouldn't ever mess with a country grandma, coyote or not!

A while back as I was driving to work I noticed that someone had strung up 6 or so coyotes on a fence along Ranch Road 12. On my way home there were people parked on the side of the road taking them down.

I've heard that putting them up is a way to warn other ranchers that there are a bunch of them in the area. The people taking them down looked like hippies (no offense to any hippies we have here). Just an interesting sight I guess. Anyone have any more insight in the matter?

Taking them down would probably count as criminal mischief. Actually taking them away would be theft, and possibly something else as theft of furbearer carcassses.

That's an old ranchers trick to keeping coyotes away. It's supposed to scare them enough to keep them outta your pasture, but I don't know if it works. I've never tried it myself. I usually leave them lay, or drag them out to the middle of a field for the buzzards to enjoy.

Coyotes are smart, but I don't think that they would understand the cause and effect.

Like I said, I don't know if it works. Just something I've been told by some old family friends.
They do make for a pretty cool looking post cap though.

When I was a kid (a long time ago) I'd see coyotes hung on fence posts in west and south Texas.
Seemed like it went for miles.
Can't say I remember them being hung up in east Texas. I know in the past they used to pay
coyote hunters per set of ears. Later, the coyote population exploded and they started poisoning.
Any deer hunter knows how quick coyotes can completely make a gut pile disappear, there at dusk
and gone at dawn. Think what a bunch of coyotes can do to a ranchers calves, goats, sheep etc.
not to mention little fido or fluffy the kitty.
