The headlines will read, "Obama calls for<fill in the blank>". He'll demonize this just like he does everything that he disagrees with and everyone who disagrees with him. It will be called racist and the Liberals will lay down in the aisles and have seizures. Then Chairman Obama will send Robert Gibbs out to give some kind of feeble press conference, when in fact, what will not be acknowledged by the Liberals is that the glove has been thrown down and the federal government, this time on Obama's watch, has been called out for ignoring the immigration issue for the last decade. What's our man-child President going to do about it? Probably find another free market enterprise to confiscate and little more. What will be even more interesting will be to observe McCain and see if he reacts like a Conservative or if he "reaches out to his friends across the aisle".

I have just been watching a TV show about Derby Line VT. They are putting gates up across the border with Canada in a town where previously townsfolk could come and go at will.

How come nobody is up in arms at that border being tightened but they get all bent out of shape at tightening the Southern Border. Surely it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that VT is a whole lot closer to Washington and New York....right? :mad5

I think immigration status being run at the same time as wants and warrants makes sense. A criminal is a criminal.

I don't know Kevin....I just don't know. But your post disturbs me. One would think the opposite would occur, but that's not the case. Why indeed? Other than your quite simplistic explanation is very close to the truth, in that Washington is closer to the Canadian border than Texas.....and the implications are scary.

Back in the early 1970's, Houston PD did this. Made sense to me.

I've read some horrendous stats before on the percentage of crimes committed by illegal immigrants. Kinda makes sense that those with no respect for the US's laws by default wouldn't care about any of them.

Now, for your viewing pleasure, a car wreck in AZ:

Okay, I'll answer that question:

The people at issue on the southern border are viewed as potential votes for whichever party gives them the most as they are coming here to stay and reproduce. Our sometimes friends to the north are not as likely to stay and become voters.

It's all about relections.

Mexico turns the tables
In what could be the ultimate insult, the Mexican government issued a travel warning to Mexicans “visiting, living or studying in the state of Arizona,” mimicking numerous such advisories the U.S. State Department has issued about traveling to Mexico.

The Mexican government — saying the law “violates inalienable human rights protected by international legal provisions and the U.S. Constitution” — sent officials to meet with U.S. groups challenging the law to coordinate “protection and consular assistance” and to provide legal representation for Mexicans in the state, the Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed. It said Mexico would defend the rights of any Mexican nationals in Arizona, “regardless of their immigration status.”
I think that the Mexican government should have posted its own laws regarding the handling and treatment of illegal aliens into their country, though it may have detracted from the impact of their own statement above.
Though I consider myself vaguely Hispanic (I guess when it is convenient), I know hypocrisy when I see it.

It's all about relections.
It's also about a few other dirty little secrets that the socialist left is not willing to talk about.... like Canadian residents of Rock Island (on the Canadian side of the border) coming to Derby Line for the medical care that they can't get under their own healthcare system.... like Canadians coming to Derby Line to buy guns and ammo they can't get in Canada (because they're not as upset about white folks having guns as they are about brown people having guns).... like the fact that the Canadians coming over the border are largely NOT members of some aggrieved ethnic group residing on the socialist plantation.... like residents of Rock Island, Canada, working in Derby Line, Vermont, where the income taxes are lower.... like Rock Island Canadians preferring to pay the 6% Vermont sales tax on goods to paying the combined 12.875% sales tax rate in Quebec Province.... like to this date, we have at least one known terrorist who crossed the Canada/US border with a bomb.... there are probably other reasons too.

What is really interesting is that if you look at the border line between Derby Line and Rock Island (really the same town) on Google Maps, there is a large border checkpoint on the Canadian side of the border where Interstate 91 becomes Canada 55. The Canadians seek to control their border entry — except where to do so might be inconvenient to the residents of Rock Island. I have actually made the border crossing there, and I can assure you that the Canadian border guards brook no nonsense from Americans. I got asked a lot of questions about where I was headed, and why... ...and this was back in 1992, long before the 9/11 attacks and the current immigration ruckus.

Why hasn't our government protested Canada's "restrictive" entry policy? Why isn't La Raza protesting it for the same reasons they protest ours? Here's why: there are only 304,245 Latin American residents of Canada, making up 0.97% of Canadian population, and Canada includes Spanish Canadians, Italian Canadians, Portuguese Canadians, and French Canadians in the term "Latin American." In short, Hispanic immigrants coming across the southern borders have no interest in going to Canada, where their opportunities would not be as many as if they come here — not to mention having to travel an additional 1500 miles or so to obtain less benefit. Given the political realities, who in their right mind would want to live in Canada, unless they could easily tap into the benefits of life in the U.S., like the residents of Rock Island Canada can?

They should have made it very clear that they would only question the status of any person during routine identification requests after interacting with them in an official capacity (burglaries, robberies, necessary traffic stops, etc......).

In other words they should have said that they WILL NOT be stopping every Mexican on the street to check their papers.
Looks like they did say that I think.

I'm considering BOYCOTTING Austin, Las Angeles, etc and buying everything online from Arizona now.

I heard they are starting to collect copies of the Quran that get dropped or lost as some persons of Arabic
descent are coming in through the border at Mexico. (Well, a farmer found two so far anyway)
