Like I said, I think it sucks they have to edit the episode but I still think its the smart move to make to avoid conflict.
I was at work all night and just now got to watch the video in full.
I agree with what they said about it being hypocritical to not put certain content in thier show because they dont want to offend certain groups but the groups Trey mentioned in the video(i.e. Catholics, etc) are not the ones making threat on their lives with a proven track record of following through on thier threats.
I agree, we should not let some radical influence the decisions of the creators or execs but the facts remain.
This could be all scare tactics but you just dont know, maybe its legit. Would you bet your life on it?
Also, think about this...Matt and Trey and pure comic brilliance!
By CC editing the episode they have taken a step to insure that Matt and Trey dont get killed and are able to keep making shows and in turn keep making the network and the execs big bucks. Im not saying this was the biggest motivating factor for them to decide to edit the show but it had to have crossed their mind. No more Matt and Trey....No more new South Park.
Its a very real threat in my opinion. The warning was posted on the New York-based website Revolution Muslim. In an article that suggested that Parker and Stone would "probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show", a writer calling himself Abu Talhah al-Amrikee listed the addresses of Comedy Central's New York office as well as Stone and Parker's production office. He also posted a link to a piece giving details of the house that the two rent.
Someone making threats on your life and posting where you work and live on the internet for anyone to have is a serious issue.
Not to mention the extremist that may feel like he has something to prove to his extremist brothers and take this to the next level on his own. It may have all just been a "warning" up to this point but this guy decides to suprise his brothers by following through on someone elses threats.
If CC allowed it to air and I had anything to do with the show I'd constantly be looking over my shoulder. The Revolution Muslim website frequently praises jihadi violence. Al-Amrikee has recently posted messages praising the suicide bombers who struck in Moscow and celebrating the Polish aircraft crash that killed 96 people, including the country's president.
He later told the Associated Press that the message was not intended as a threat but as a warning. Asked if Parker and Stone should feel threatened by it, he said: "They should feel threatened by what they did."
Im just looking at it from a worst case scenario here, and youd have to be blind not to be able to see it this way too.....potentially.
Yes, they should be able to do what they want. Is that the reality? Not right now......
