[quote="marksiwel"]I see FMJ at Academy but never JHP[quote]

More than half the stash of .380 I accumulated by using my Academy routine is JHP. For a few weeks it was all they had. Not the fancy stuff, just their own brand Monarch 94gr JHP. Both the JHP and FMJ Monarch 380 has performed flawlessly in my Bersa. It was pretty cheap too about $13 / 50 box IIRC. This was last summer so it may have gone up since then.

would you want to use Monarch JHP to protect yourself?

Probably not my first choice ; -) But it's better than nothing. I use it at the range and carry it for lack of a better option.

The Monarch JHP is a curiosity. It cost about the same as their FMJ and seems to have just a little bit of lead scooped out of the center. I would love to see if there is any expansion.

This came up a while back and I took some pics of Monarch JHP's.

They probably just hurt a little more than FMJ's.

I'm sure with a little practice, you could catch them in your teeth. :-)

If you can get me a couple rounds and 6 one-gallon milk jugs (or water jugs), I'd be happy to test them for expansion at my family's land near Hutto. Someone else - I think it was Joe817 in DFW area - had asked me about testing some Monarch JHP but I don't have any left (sold them off after I finally found enough boxes of Hornady Critical Defense to satisfy my needs).

How do you practice something like that? You either catch it or it's break out the dental floss...for those anyway.

Seriously though, it looks like they snipped the ends off their FMJs and tapped them with a drill press.

Not even that ambitious-The FMJ nose is already flat-They just tapped them with a drill press. Still, it bothers me that there are people out there that think they're packin' hollow points when they've loaded their guns with an FM with J.
