My Wife wonders why I carry. And why I want her to learn to shoot and carry.

The other night we were leaving a movie and she stated that she was scared.

I said. "Don't worry I will protect you."
Her response?.....""Why....I can run away faster than you can"
I told her "I was carrying"
Her response?......"It does not help us if it is in the car"....I was proud that after being with me all night that she could not tell.
I told her "I have it on me"
She says....."Where?"
I respond "4 O'clock"....
I am proud and expecting her to feel better but her response is........wait for it........"That does not make me feel any better"

Am I the only one married to someone that just does not get the point that personal safety is a PERSONAL issue?

Also, a bit of advice. If your wife ask's where your firearm is, don't say 4:00. So cheesy. I know my wife would just laugh and call me a dork. In fact, I would probably laugh at you if I heard the same.

I begged my wife to get her CHL with me for a year. She would say Ok, then no, then OK, then finally NO and dont ask me again!
I told her I didnt care if she EVER carried but I wanted her to hear what I was hearing at the class. I wanted us to both be on the same page.

Christmas.
I get a blue notebook, a pencil, a purple notebook, a purple pen and receipt from Red's for $300.

I was confused as hell. I thought she got me a gift certificate and some wierd office supplies.

The reciept was for our CHL class and the office supplies were so we could take notes!!!

We both got our CHL.

The other day we went out shopping. When we got home she saw me taking the gun off.
She got very frustrated. I told we just took our CHL class together for Pete's sake! What is wrong!!
She said I just dont like it.
A long conversation followed.
We have agreed that I dont tell her when I have it on me.

Tell me that is not a strange a twisted story.

Don't try to change her mind about you carrying. If she's not forcing you to leave your gun at home or trying to get you to get rid of your weapons, leave it alone. No need to argue over it. You do your thing and if you ever have to protect yourself or her, you'll be prepared.

This is good advice. Most people who are anti-gun, have simply not been around weapons and are afraid due to unfamiliarity. My wife was a little apprehensive when I first started carrying, though she never protested or asked me not to. I just carried and made it part of my routine and in very short order, it became normal. Once your wife starts to become comfortable with the idea of your carrying a gun, you might try inviting her to the range. As long as you present it as a fun time that you can both spend together, she will probably agree. The key is to not try and force her to come around to your way of thinking. She has her opinions and you have yours and the harder you push, the more likely she is to resist, it is just human nature.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not in your shoes. I'm fortunate enough to have a wife that a) knows I carry all day every day, b) has applied for her license and is taking the class in two weeks, c) knows that I've carried for years, d) watches me put the pump shotgun by the bedside table each night, and e) knows my will to keep my family safe.

I honestly don't know what I would do if I were you...

However, Ephesians 5:25 sums it well, taking 5:24 into PROPER context.......Meaning...we are to take care of our wives....

Y'all's wives sound just like my wife. She recently got a CHL, but she has NEVER carried. Not even after her co-worker was shot on the job. Not after her other co-worker was stalked and had a home invasion by the stalker. Nope. My wife works in Oak Cliff and she is either very stubborn or very brave.

We both got the CHL as a political statement to support our constitutional rights as patriots. But, I never carry since my workplace has security guards. She won't let me have any guns at home. I've given all my guns away to my father and best friend. They let me shoot their guns.

Hmmm... do our wives talk to each other or know each other???

Do you not carry because you're worried that they will prevent you from carrying, or because you think you're safe with them around?

I'm a security officer myself. Personally I would NOT expect any security guard to protect anyone but himself in an active shooter situation.

We used to have Hardemann's on busy shifts when we couldn't cook for ourselves and it was excellent, but I doubt I would take a trip down that way at night just to get some. I think there's a 12 step for BBQ addicts around somewhere.

If I were of the mind-set that there were only a few places that I needed to carry a gun, I just wouldn't go to those few places. Even though City Market in Luling comes close, there is no barbecue that's good enough to risk your life over?

In reality there is always a risk of personal attack, or home invasion and a means of personal protection should be within reach 24/7. If a person mentions that they might take a life if a gun is accessible, that should be a giant red flag!! That person could be dangerous enough to harm someone with a pair of scissors, a steak knife, a car, or whatever is handy. This is serious business and cannot be taken lightly.

I just think that my wife has lead a sheltered life. I have had experiences that make me more focused on security.

When I was a kid my house was robbed 4 times. Once while we were sleeping.

When I was in High School and working I was robbed at gunpoint. Lucky for me no one was hurt. Looking back I was in perfect tactical position to take the person out.

When I was in College I pulled a gun on a person (shotgun) to prevent the abduction of a woman at knifepoint. Lucky for me I did not have to use it. I ab sure alot of that had to do with the face that he was 6 feet away and I was holding a double barreled coachgun.

SHe knows incidents that have happened in the area. 2 of her students were held up at the movies (this caused me to get my permit).

She is also not anti gun. Her father has guns. SHe grew up in a household that hunts and has gone hunting with me.

I just think that she has lead a sheltered life and has never HAD to think about personal security. I like some of the ideas above and will try some.

My situation is almost identical to yours. But, since I carry everywhere I can (even at home) she doesn't even say anything anymore. She just expects me to carry all the time. Now, when we are somewhere that doesn't feel quite right to her, she does ask if I'm armed, to which I always say...yep. Even at home, when she sees something suspicious outside, she confirms that I'm armed. Even when I go walking the dog late at night, she sometimes "reminds" me to take my weapon and a doggy-doo-bag.

To the OP, give it time...hopefully she'll get used to the idea and begin to expect it.
