May I suggest that you become proficient with the iron sites first? I believe this to be an important part of becoming a better rifleman.

There's an eyesight issue at play here. That doesn't mean don't learn how to use the irons, but they are BUIS for a reason: optics are better.

My M1A has superb iron sights, but my eyes are just a tad older than the rifle's design. I can use them, but not with anywhere near the accuracy as with optics. Ditto my ARs. I can use the irons if I have to, but such is not my preference.

Ultimately I plan on getting another upper that will allow me to shoot 7.62x39 (AK rounds) which will be cheap and give me the power I want. I could have just opted for an AK as my gun, but i wouldn't have gotten all the bells and whistles and modularity available in the AR world... anyway, that's another discussion.

Well if thats too wimpy I just picked up a .50 Beowulf Ar15. Could always get a different upper for your need to blow stuff up days!

New riser and scope and bipod attached. Only parts i need now are the new forearm and an upgraded pistol grip and i'll be happy with it. Those will have to wait a month or two though. Oh, and will likely need a new case since this one is obviously too small with the scope attached.

Turn your bipod around, it's on backwards. :tiphat:

I think it looks cute. Like a little animal with it's feet tucked up.

It might look weird folded forward but you might find it works better if you decide to attach a foregrip to your lower rail and transition between the two.

BTW, LedJedi, that's an awesome Bushmaster you've got there!

I'm in the middle of my own build so to speak, finished my RRA lower with DPMS lower parts kit and a few MagPul items. Decided that I would let Del-ton put an upper together for me, I'll just call it my 1/2 build when its complete, can't take all the credit.

yeah man, figured if i didn't have the $$ i wanted for a really nice complete package I figured i'd buy the top of the line starting package and build up from there.

I plan on getting a forearm that extends the railing past the front iron sight. When I get that I'll bump the bipod up to that front most rail and put a folding front grip where the bipod is now.

Jedi, why the scope riser? I would have gone with a set of Burris XTR tactical rings in 1" height. ($29.95 per ring from swfa.com)

My son has a set of those on his RRA flat top varminter, and they are at nearly the perfect height. I have a similar mount setup on my Bushmaster varminter but with different brand of rings. In fact both rifles have Magpul PRS stocks on them, and even with the lower height scope setup, you have to dial in some elevation on the cheek weld to get the right height for the scope.

In any case, that gives you the right height above the bore for the scope. What you may find after shooting the rifle a few times is that the scope height isn't comfortable for you. If that's the case, try lowering the scope by taking off the riser and going with some 1" high rings like the Burris XTRs and see if that does the trick for you. Plus, they have the added feature of a "look through" hole which can allow you to use your BUIS without taking off the scope.

OTH, if that setup works for you as is, don't change a thing!! Getting the perfect setup on a first try is pretty rare.

well, i stand corrected on the matter of the bipod. I guess i've probably seen examples, but never processed that they were pointing forward. I could see where that makes more sense from a standpoint of gripping the fore end and from the perspective of an added front grip. Just seems contrary from the perspective of a graphic designer like myself. makes practical sense though.

I got the riser cause I already had the rings I ordered in-hand. Buying a riser was cheaper than another set of rings at that point. I didn't realize the scope was going to be that low with those rings. If after shooting I dont dig the setup i'll likely switch to elevated rings as you suggest though. Right now I'm just trying to get all the major parts I want on the build.

I want the new fore end that floats past the front sight, a new pistol grip and probably a charging handle with a better grip on it. At that point I'll look at slings.

I have a working wishlist on amazon that I'm adding new parts I like to as I identify them. It's not an issue of throwing everything and the kitchen sink on the gun. Many of the upgrades are straight out replacements of stock parts.

I'll probably still get the forearm / fore end I listed on the first page of this thread though. So far I like that one the best. It's from CTD.

I like em a lot. They're pretty well made. I would be more comfortable if the stuff on a rail had some sort of racheting system to lock into place instead of just screw pressure, but that's an overall design issue with the rail system, not really a critique of individual parts. They're awesome parts for the $$.
