My Financial Advisors were suspicious of the CHLPP people, as they didn't reference an actual insurance company.
Mmdbrokers are underwritten by Lloyds. But they are more expensive.
Also, CHLPP seems to supply the lawyers up front, MMD just reimburses after the fact (once you're found not-guilty).

I would be quite interested in a discussion comparing these (and any other) companies providing liability insurance for self-defense gun usage. Especially if anybody has actually used them -- ESPECIALLY if they've made a claim against them!

For those in the Houston area, I can recommend Sean Cody. He does not specialize in criminal law, as he is primarily a family law attorney. He does, however, specialize in firearms rights issues. He is an FFL and Class 3 SOT and knows firearms laws very well. I'm not sure if he would be the first one to call for a self defense shooting (though he may specialize in that as well), but for most other firearms issues, I wouldn't hesitate to call him.

I'm sure you guys are great friends with your attorneys. However, as a courtesy to the attorneys, I suggest
you get permission from them to post their names on any i-net forum. Although the Bar assoc. Ok'd advertising
by attys years ago...... most reputable attys only do so on their office building or in the phone book.
And yea, I'm sick of hearing about the "Texas Hammer" and the "Strong Arm" every time I watch TV.

If you guys are looking to gauge value, most Law Enforcement in my area, including myself are members of TMPA (tx municpal police association) for $28/mo. They are legal representation in case of an incedent on and off duty.

I figure CHL protection should cost less than that since they dont have to represent you for IA investigations, just for criminal actions, and possibly civil.

I've seen posts suggesting that "If you carry a gun (CHL) then you need a lawyer, or at least one's number in your wallet or phone".

For those who haven't needed a criminal defense lawyer but carry a number in their wallet/phone... did you actually interview / meet an attorney (without already needing help), or are you carrying a number gleaned from a phone book, website, friend referral etc.

I'm wondering how many people interview a defense lawyer on the long odds that they may someday need one.

Speed dials and business cards are fine and well. BUT. The last time i was in jail many years ago (forgot to pay a traffic ticket) by the time i got to a phone i had no wallet, business cards, cell phone or shoelaces...

might be better to leave that info with someone you know that will answer the phone at 2am

He was offering it as a way to gauge how much we would pay versus what an officer would pay. Not as a recommendation as to an alternative for us.
