I bought my wife a necklace at the one at Memorial City Mall before I got my CHL so I wasn't looking for the sign. That will be the last time they get my business. There are too many other choices around the next time I want to get my wife a trinket.PappaGun wrote:Is it a fully compliant sign other than the missing letters?
If so, I would not carry there.

CHL since 01/26/09
Re: 30.06 Sign, letters missing
Things I would not test:
- 7/8" letters
- Mis-spellings or missing letters
- The definition of "block letters"
- Whether a glass door constitutes a "contrasting color"
- English-only signs (or, if Spanish was my primary language, Spanish-only)
Things I would happily ignore, even if it meant being a test case:
- "Gun busters" or "no firearms" signs that make no attempt to comply with 30.06
- Obsolete "Vernon's Civil Statutes" signs
- Correct 30.06 wording on a standard sheet of printer paper (too small)
- Correct 30.06 signs invalidly posted on government property.

Re: 30.06 Sign, letters missing
This is a great question. I would go with it is probably non compliant once anything is missing. I mean, if the law says it is supposed to say A + B + C and it says A + + C, how are we truly supposed to know that it didn't say A + C + C? Yes, you may think you know what it is supposed to say, but from what I've read the law states what it must say, in both English and Spanish. I would hope any of us could get off on a technicality, but we know hope don't float.

Actually, it would take only one, especially if I was the one. It's gotta be unanimous.WildBill wrote:Not unless you had 12 people with CHLs sitting on the jury.bdickens wrote:I wouldn't think that an otherwise proper sign having been defaced would make any difference.
'Course, if the prosecutor has at least half a brain, he will allow no CHL on the jury.
On the other hand, a defense attorney with at least half a brain would get you off. A good one would prevent you from going to trial. The responsibility to post a proper sign means maintaining it, too. The wrong size letters, even by 1/8", words missing, letters missing, &c., are ALL technicalities which are much easier for the defense to use to prove a case. When I see a sign that doesn't meet the letter of the law, I ignore it. And since concealed means concealed, they won't know I'm carrying unless some BG comes in to rob the place and I decide to defend myself and all the other folks in the store.
What I can't figure is why you think you HAD to go to Jared in the first place. Lotsa places will clean your jewelry for you. Some may even be happy that you're armed.

Re: 30.06 Sign, letters missing
I carry some business cards from Shiloh Shooting Range with me all the time.
They say:
"As A Texas CHL License Holder I
*Have no felony convictions -- Lifetime
*No Class A or B Misdemeanors within the last 5 years
*Passed both Stat and FEderal fingerprint and background checks
*No delinquent conduct within th epast 10 years
*Not deliquent in child support, stuednt loans or State/Federal taxes
HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT YOUR OTHER CUSTOMERS?"
And I haven't been shy about leaving them behind. Even if I didn't intend to shop there at the time, if I notice any kind of sign (except places that serve alcohol) I give a card to an employee or manager.
Plenty of other places that would love my $$

Re: 30.06 Sign, letters missing
I keep thinking about getting some made up, but I doubt I'll visit 1,000 no-carry businesses in the next 10 years. Last time UPrinting ran a great deal, I actually needed business cards, (and it was one design per customer on the deal) so I didn't get to do these.Embalmo wrote:I gotta' get me some of those!
FWIW, UPrinting has standard size cards right now for $20/250 or $22.08/1000. Back printing pushes the price up a bit. Maybe somebody who's already set up to handle product orders could make up a TXCHLForum design, get a few thousand and sell them in much more practical 100 lots.

That might have some interesting implications for an appeal - after all there is a Constitutional guarantee of a jury of your peers, and anyone without a CHL would not be a peer, right?E10 wrote:'Course, if the prosecutor has at least half a brain, he will allow no CHL on the jury.

What is a "gun busters" sign? When I google it all I get is information on a Japanese anime cartoon.
