Being a 1911 guy, Glock Leg is not something I have to worry about much.

(FWIW, I really like my wife's G19, but it had to be said. "rlol" )

Glock Leg? Does that mean what I think it does?

Presonally, and just personally, a weapon without an active safety is the same as no safety to me. I don't see a difference between a Glock with one in the chamber, and a 1911 with the safety off (except the 1911 has the additional palm safety).

Yes it does. I think its new name is gaining some traction: Plaxico Syndrome. :smilelol5:

:iagree:
When I do begin to carry my G22, there won't be a chambered round. Until I'm 101% confident I won't develop Glock Leg/Plaxico Syndrome.

When I carry my 1911, I carry cocked and locked. I've practiced drawing with my thumb high to take off the safety.

No safety.
No decocker.
No Problem.

Always one in the chamber.
Five chambers.

Never cock it.
Don't lock it.
Just rock it.

Right on, casingpoint! If my SP-101 can't put five where I want them I am in the wrong gunfight. :cheers2:

1911 needs a thumb-safety because of its short and light trigger-pull. Glocks, DA autos and revolvers don't really need one - not for that reason, anyway.

Glocks have triggers that are just as light and only a very small bit longer that a 1911. And my Hipowers have a longer trigger and heavier trigger pull than any Glock I have ever shot. S&W M&Ps similarly have trigger pulls about as short and certainly as light as 1911. So that really doesn't explain why a 1911 or Hipower "needs" a thumb safety.

Right on, Andy. And if I remember right the article referred to by the OP was a 1911. I am not sure the best way to carry some other handgun is really relevant to the good ol' 1911. :???:

All of my carry guns have a round chambered. THe only difference being my 1911s are carried in condition 1. My Glocks, Kel-Tec and Kahr are carried with a round in the chamber but obviously do not have a manual safety.

I have never understood the mentality of not wanting to carry a round in the chamber. That's the last thing you need to be thinking about doing if you are ever in a situation where you need to use it.

I think the mentality is that the don't trust there won't be an accidental discharge of the firearm into the owner while they are carrying it. Muprhy's law has burned many a person into not trusting circumstances and mechanicals.

I would venture to say there are many dead men as a result of not carrying their weapon ready to go when they need it as well.

Agreed. I did not post that to get into an argument on the merits as I am a firm believer in carrying in whatever way works for each individual person, their conditions, and their time of their life. OT but the only thing I am happy about is stopping someone from 1911 carrying CHL cocked with no safety (I talked them into carrying with the safety on).

Having said that:
1. I would also venture there are those who suffer from Glock Leg (learn something every day). :eek6
2. You can take this the other way as well. Logically we should all be carrying pistols drawn under a coat, because milliseconds count. :fire

My circumstances and my decisioning are my own and your mileage may vary.
