Subcompact owners, your thoughts on single clip IWB holsters

I wouldn't recommend those metal clip holsters. There are some holsters that have a single or double leather strap that snaps.They are easy to take off when needed, but secure and stabilize the holster to the belt the rest of the time.

For the metal clips as described with photo by Andy above, I agree with you.

But these metal clips used by High Noon wrap all the way around the belt and back up under the bottom edge of the belt. I've never had one fail to retain my holster on a draw, unless I didn't put it on right to begin with (i.e. didn't seat the bottom edge of belt into the bottom curve of the holster clip.

I have the Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe for my Glock 17 and then a Don Hume single metal clip for my Kimber 4" (still waiting on my Bullman holster). I've gotta tell ya...I am NOT a fan of the Don Hume single metal clip...there's no bodyguard on it, it doesn't spread the load, it's abrupt...meaning, it's bulky and not "smoothed" out like a dual clip. It's more comfy now but I find myself wearing the Crossbreed much more. But like pcernuch mentioned, the single clip is MUCH easier to take on/off.

i carry a g27, i have the $90 crossbreed, and a $30 don hume single metal clip i picked up from CTD. i use the don hume everyday. i cannot carry at work, but carry 100% of the time i am not a work. the single metal clip makes it easy to take off my pistol and store it in the vehicle when i get to work, and just as easy to put back on when i am off work for the day. the crossbreed is a great holster, it is just a bit more work.

Okay, maybe this should go upstairs to the Equipment forum but now I have a question. I'm a fat boy and need to carry concealed with a tuck shirt. Currently I use a belly band but am not real keen on the access. So if I am carrying a G23, what is comfortable (relative I know) and concealable on a fat body. The cross breed looks interesting, but the demo guy is not how I am built.

If I am casual and wearing a long untucked shirt I'll use my Bullard "Undercover"...it is a great OWB rig.

Ended up getting this until I can afford (birthday is coming) a CompTac CTAC. Should come in tomorrow, I'll let you know how I like it.

I have this holster and love it. When I need to remove the gun temporarily for whatever reason I've started removing the holster with the gun in it which seems safer to me because the trigger remains covered. I also cc the glock 27 and it just seems prudent to keep the chances of accidentally touching the trigger to a minimum which can happen while removing or putting back into the holster.

I have more holsters than I know what to do with. My go to holster is a single clip Galco. I don't particularly care for the holster, but I do like it's convenience of easy on and easy off.

I can grab my holstered P239 and shove it inside my pants and clip it on my belt without losing stride, so to speak. I can easily remove the holstered pistol one handed.

This setup conceals very well on me. Actually better that the same pistol in a Crossbreed Supertuck.

As I don't care too much for the Galco, I just ordered Tucker's 'Cover Up". It's a similar holster, but has an adjustable cant and height, and it's tuckable. I hope it conceals as well as the Galco.

Too many pistols and too many holsters. I think I need to unload some, but I haven't been able to bring myself to do it. and

Not sure how much of a "fat boy" you are but I'm 6-1 275 and the Crossbreed is hands-down the most comfortable IWB I've ever used. Have carried it tucked with Glock 23 and 27, but prefer the slimmer Walther PPS. It is my go to IWB holster for all occasions, tucked or untucked. Only keep the High Noon holsters around as backups or when I want to just put something one for walking around the house.

Bare Asset: solid build, fits the gun well and fits the belt real good. The bad thing is that it tends to ride a bit high but like I said, it's just a filler until I can get a CTAC. I would recommend it.

Thanks, 6-1 260 here but working on it. The Crossbreed is definitely worth a look. I have the Galco single clip but it shoves the whole gun into the britches pretty much. Uncomfortable and difficult to draw. It bulges pretty bad but it just looks like I have a bunch of junk in my pocket...if you notice at all.

Thanks for all the comments. I will eventually own a ctac-mtac at some point, but for now, I think that High Noon Split Decision will be the way to go. The easy on easy off feature of the single clip I believe will work best for my carry to and from work, and when out and about on the weekends.

I have the comptac 2'oclock for my pt-140, very easy to conceal. fast access and easy removal. plus doesn't bother me to sit or drive. i can bend however i need to and don't have to worry about exposing. i plan on running the 15 round mag and i'm confidant i'll still be able to conceal. it's even tuckable. i tried that once with dress slacks and a button down shirt. i was standing infront of everybody at a wedding taking pictures. it sure felt like all eyes were on me. i still plan on getting one of the two clip hybrids but for now this one has been great.

Ooooh single clip on the HOLSTER! I read this and kept thinking single magazine in the holster?

Right, my first holster was an Uncle Mike's single clip IWB jobbie. I hated it because it rode too high, which threw off the center of gravity of my Bersa 380. The single clip was insufficient to prevent the shifting of the pistol and I felt uncomfortable with the potential of it coming off of my belt or printing because it was sliding around.

So I bought a Comptac CTAC holster that I found a really good deal on. It has 2 clips with completely adjustable height and cant. I wear mine at 4 or 5 oclock with a serious cant to it.

The other nice thing is, you can tuck a shirt in with it. I usually wear an undershirt and an untucked button down, so I tuck the undershirt in and it helps break up the pattern. I can wear it in this manner with some rather tight shirts with no printing or recognizable bulges.

My next investment is a black 5.11 Tactical Casual Leather belt to snug everything up even more.

My experience with any metal clip is they tear up my belts. I like quality belts, so it is a bit of a bummer when you see the top of your Beltman is being scuffed all to heck and back from the metal clip. Crossbreed Supertuck with the J Hooks are real easy to get on and off once you figure out how it works. Admittedly it was a bit awkward at first, but so was walking and most of us figure that one out by the time we are 2. Learning how to put on a quality holster with minimal effort is worth it in the long run.

I have no problem with single clip IWB holsters for my CZ RAMI 9mm. While it is their "sub-compact", its a chunky, hefty weapon for the sub-compact size-class. With a good belt it is safely secure. Everybody has what works for them; but I think your choice in holster-type will work just fine for you.

Does for me....everyday. Just like putting on socks and dropping keys in my pocket; part of the routing of getting up and don't even think about it any more.
