My #1 goal is the federal government obeying the constitution. Especially the 9th and 10th amendments.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Repeal of the Patriot Act.
Legalization of Marijuana (seriously, how is it worse than tobacco or alcohol).
More of the federal governments spending kept IN OUR BORDERS.
Higher taxes for company who outsource overseas.

The reason they didn't pay taxes was that they didn't make a profit.
The GAO did not analyze whether the firms had profits that should have been taxed
Just because they made "2.5 trillion" in sales doesn't answer the question of what their profits were. And I would guess that the vast majority of that $2.5 trillion was made by the 1/3 of corporations that DID pay taxes.

It is irresponsible to first report the quote above, then quote some Democrat calling it "a shocking indictment of the current tax system". Not that I want to support or defend out tax system.

The tax system may be broken, but the two-thirds not paying taxes statistic is meaningless without more information.

You do know, right, that most small businesses are "subchapter S" businesses, where the profits are reported on the owners 1040 returns. NONE of those businesses directly pay income taxes at all.

If a "company" (insert MSM's definition: big, bad, evil, mean greedy...) payes more in taxes, who pays? The consumer. Who's the consumer? You and me. Taxes on "companies" are still a tax on the middle class.

My preference is for a consumption tax. I was advocating that 10 years ago. Scrap the income tax and let it all be based on consumer decisions.

As for the biggest issue? Madeoff was nothing on these crooks. SS, Medicaid, Medicare, Entitlements... all ponzi schemes that are either bankrupt or soon will be. I believe the Fed has NO authority in these areas. "PROMOTE general welfare" NOT "PROVIDE general welfare"... huge difference. If states want to take on this issue... so be it, that's where it belongs, NOT in DC. We have our great grandchildren so far in debt, they will become slaves to another country in their lifetime if we don't snap out of our entitlement attitude.

The option to opt out of Social Security all together...
Legalization of Marijuana (as previously mentioned)...
Close our borders and make it open season for anyone sneaking in...
Congress and Senators do not get lifetime benefits and are forced back to normal life after two terms...
Congress and Senators have to get private health insurance...
Get the heck out of anything that happens behind private doors...

That the government "insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare" by protecting the life of the unborn and staying out of my way as I protect those that I love.

That the government not infringe on our liberty, obey the first amendment and quit regulating the " establishment of religion, prohibiting the free exercise thereof; abridging the freedom of speech, the press; and the right of the people peaceably to assemble." Stay out of my way as I decide how the children God gave me stewardship over will be raised and educated. Quit building barriers keeping the citizens from " petitioning the government for a redress of grievances" and protecting those that would do us harm in the interest of money. Quit forcing the removal of God from the buildings the people have selected to house those words.

Allow me to pursue happiness by repealing the 16th amendment, abolishing civilian organizations operating under auspices of federal authority (IRS, ATF, Federal Reserve) and garnering taxes from consumption or flat rate. Spend less than they take in so that I and all citizens can create, innovate, expand horizons, all without fear of oppression and reprisal by a greedy "progressive" machine that would control all aspects of our lives.

In short, restore the republic.
