As for Airsoft, Set up areas in Parks where kids can play. Put up some nets, make it mandatory that they have Goggles on, your set., other than that leave them alone.

We would tromp through that swamp as if we were Special Forces patrolling the rice patties of Vietnam.

Heck when I was a teenager, we WERE patrolling through the jungles and rice PADDIES of Vietnam with real guns!

Long before that, we played cowboys and Indians. Not politically correct nowadays. Our guns sure didn't look much like real ones though. We didn't even have TV, just the matinee on Saturday. No problem with playing on others lawns - we didn't tear anything up. My grandson doesn't ever play outside - watches TV and plays video games. People who grow up like this have no imagination. I'm planning to start him shooting this summer, Lord willing.

anybody can MMQB this situation, but in a low/no light situation responding to a weapons call, Frisco PD did good. these kids and parents are damn lucky they get to see each other again.

the picture below is a AIRSOFT "toy" rifle, i found the pic at air soft emporium or some similar website. even in broad day light, take that and point it at an officer, i bet 10 out of 10 times you get shot with real bullets.

Lets not stop kids from playing with Airsoft, those are the kids that grow up to be Future shooters (I know I was)
I was scared of guns until I was 17. I had shot a couple of times with my grandfather but his health problems made him a poor teacher with a short temper so as kids we were afraid of him, he's since mellowed out once the DOcs figured out what was wrong with him
In my school district i had teachers teaching that the 2nd was just for hunting and that it didn't cover self defense, (Thank you Coppell High School 11th grade History/government program) The only teacher I ever had to say anything different was my Civil War History Teacher, a Rough old Goat, named Mike"Coach" Stewart, he was a Civil War reenactor and I believe he shot Cowboy Action but I didnt know what that was when I was younger.
He got me interested in the Civil War, which got me interested in Rifles, which led to Airsoft, which when I got back from Boston led to me receiving a Pistol from my wifes Grandfather.

Problem is.. you can paint a real gun's tip orange just as easily as you can paint a fake gun's black.

If someone points a gun at you, no matter its color or anything, you have to assume it's real until proven otherwise.

How many Pink ARs have you seen? How many Orange Glocks, those are the only two.

We do agree, those kids were lucky not to be shot.
I wish the parents hold told the neighbor or the PD that the kids were playing "War" in the neighbor hood.

I agree that the world has changed. I think a lot of the problem is that people don't necessarily know their neighbors anymore. When I was growing up we had a park across the street and we played Army and 'Cowboys and Indians' all over the park and the neighborhood. But all of the parent's in the neighborhood, and even the older adults in the neighborhood knew us and kept an eye out for us. But we also respected their property. We never played in anyone's yard without permission. Even after we moved and the neighborhood gang started having BB gun wars we still never had police involved, and my BB rifle at a distance had an AR15/M16 look to it. But again, all of the neighbors knew us. We respected their property, and we took responsibility for any damage that we did cause.

So I think a lot of the problem is not knowing the neighbors and their kids, and the kids not being taught respect for other people's property. I remember growing up my parents use to have block parties where all of the neighbors would get together for cookouts in the summer. Maybe it is time that we get back to that and take our neighborhoods back from the Gangs, thieves, crooks, etc. Plus we might all make some new friends.

brewdawg, you perfectly described the neighborhood where I grew up. BB gun fights, block party BBQ's and all. Not only were our neighbors our neighbors, but also personal friends.
