Re: December 2009 Applications
Got my CHL today! Bought a Beretta Storm PX4 9mm and absolutely love it! Still it seems too large to carry 24/7 and somewhat uncomfortable IWB in any position. The only comfortable wear seems to be in a shoulder harness under a buttonw up shirt or IWB and a jacket. I'm thinking about getting a subcompact for 24/7 and summer carry. Any suggestions for a nice reasonably priced subcompact comparable to the Storm? I'm not big on Glocks or Kimbers.

You can't go wrong with a Springfield XD subcompact ..reliable , accurate , and if you shop around , affordable.angretired wrote: I'm thinking about getting a subcompact for 24/7 and summer carry. I also had good luck with my Taurus Millennium Pro , which is even more affordable.

How about a Beretta - PX4 Storm Type F Sub-Compact, 9mm?

Re: December 2009 Applications
Thanks for the suggestions USA1 & Joe817, I like all 3 (Springfield, Taurus & Beretta) in a .45. I haven't shot a Taurus but my CHL instructor had one and he also made the recommendation. Off to the other boards for more CHL ideas and discussions. I'm no longer waiting. YAY.

One thing..to the best of my knowledge , Springfield doesn't have a .45 in "subcompact" .angretired wrote:Thanks for the suggestions USA1 & Joe817, I like all 3 (Springfield, Taurus & Beretta) in a .45. But they do offer a "compact" .45 which is slightly larger.

Springfield has come out with their 3" barrel, 9mm EMP:USA1 wrote:One thing..to the best of my knowledge , Springfield doesn't have a .45 in "subcompact" .angretired wrote:Thanks for the suggestions USA1 & Joe817, I like all 3 (Springfield, Taurus & Beretta) in a .45. "To put the EMP in proper perspective, you need to realize that a Walther PPK/S in .380 ACP weighs a tad over 22 ounces and is only slightly shorter and thinner than this new pistol. The new EMP measures 6.6 inches long. In effect, Springfield Armory has designed a 9mm 1911 pistol that is only slightly larger than a .380 pocket pistol."

I'd love to have one of those things.

Yup, we didn't expect to have a XD, but we just put a XD45c on layaway this week as our second carry gun. Felt good in the hand, similar to our G36, and the grip safety is a nice feature.
I prefer the 4" just because it makes more sense at the range; I don't need the challenge of trying to group with a 3", as I have enough problems with 4"....
Will probably pick it up tomorrow evening; DynaBlue's still waiting on her plastic in the mail -- getting tense around here again.
Life is for learning.

I'm sure that Springfield EMP is a nice handgun but it looks pricey from what I've seen so far and probably hard to get just yet.

Re: December 2009 Applications
Well, checked DPS today and the status has changed to Application Complete. So I guess it is time to shop for something to carry my XD9SC.

Re: December 2009 Applications
Good news!
I need to *find* an XD9sub - Cabela's has them on sale starting today for $50 off (making price $469 for the std blk model), but of course i called them and they don't have any. Oh well, I really want night sights anyway.
