Re: Best "value" in a .22 rifle?
Thank you for the CZ .22 review. It pretty much covers all of the bases.
Re: Best "value" in a .22 rifle?
Excellent. Thee same group recommended the Marlin 980 bolt action for similar reasons.

Most of those in the stores now have a shorter barrel.
I recently went to Cabela's specifically to pick up a wood/stainless 60 on sale for $189.95.
When i picked up the display, it just did not feel right. It finally dawned on me that the barrel was much shorter.
I do not think they make the long barrel any longer, though they did make a 22" stainless in recent years.
Not a big deal as far as accuracy, but I'm a big guy with long arms, and I like long guns.
My 18" 10/22 feels like a youth gun to me. The old 60 feels right.
So I'm shopping the used market for a SS/laminated 60.
Ah, now I see. As I also have what my wife calls "monkey arms", I think the 19" barrel Model 60 will likely feel a bit smallish in my hands, too, but I'll have to get used to it, I guess.

If you are buying new, you might have a hard time finding anything with a barrel longer than 19".

That's what I'm afraid of. I haven't seen any with a longer barrel. Maybe some of those European models have 'em - the CZs and Anschutzes - but not much on this side of the pond. That's one thing that kind of turned me off of the 10/22, too - the short length.

If "catches my eye" is your main criterion, a pink Crickett comes to mind.WolfeJager wrote:I need to get a .22, just cant find one that catches my eye. And thats under 200$

Ruger 10/22 hands down. This is a heirloom gun that you can pass down. I took my son today shooting it and both of us hit center target 95% of the time from 100 yards. For the money it can't be beat and there are hundreds of accessories for it.

Don't get me wrong, the Marlin 60 is still very noticeable longer than a 10/22.UpTheIrons wrote:That's what I'm afraid of. I haven't seen any with a longer barrel. I consider my 10/22 a youth-size firearm. The forearm length on the overall heft of the M60 is still way better than the 10/22 IMHO.
I have not looked at the Savage line, might be some grown-up .22s there.

Check Remingtons. I have an old pump remington with a longer barrel and nice trigger. This is balanced by its make you weep field stripping process and tendency to just lock up with a round in the chamber.

I just picked up my NIB CZ 452 American.
It sure is a pretty thing. Tomorrow, we'll see if it'll go bang.

Last Thursday, a bud and I went to our little impromptu range to fire for effect; he with his Ruger 77/22 and me with my CZ 452 American. Buzz is a good shot, I'm somewhere between average and mediocre. LST, my CZ put 4/5 bullets under a dime at 75 yards. This miraculous event was done with an old Simmons 4x32 Deerfield scope using the cheapest Win HV bulk .22 LR Wal-Mart carries.frazzled wrote:Please keep us posted good sir, especially on the feel of the trigger.Oldgringo wrote:I just picked up my NIB CZ 452 American.

Since then we lightened the trigger by two turns and installed a 3x9 Mil Dot AR22 Centerpoint scope on the beauty. We'll see if we can put 4/5 in the same hole tomorrow - weather permitting.
Godfrey Daniels! Shooting a .22 LR is almost as good as napalm in the morning.
