Lucky Day

#1

Post by kirock7 »

Well, today must be my lucky day.

After showering, shaving and getting ready for work this morning I went to move the pants that I'd been wearing the night before to the laundry bin. Just when I picked them up I felt the resistance and saw my Taurus PT111 (bought new last year) start to fall out of the IWB holster I had neglected to remove from my belt before/after undressing for bed last night. Trust me... it all seemed to happen in slow motion. I had the sense enough not to grab for it... and could only watch as the muzzle turned right towards my face as the butt of the gun hit the carpeted floor. There was a click... and then nothing but me cussing and my wife asking what was wrong.
I tried not to let her know the extent of what could have just happened and changed the subject quickly.

On my drive to work this morning all I could do was keep mulling the possibilities over and over. What if it had gone off? What if my wife had moved my pants and it had fallen out of the holster? What if??????

If there's one thing I've learned; my carry weapon will from now until the end of time be stowed properly before I go to bed (I have a bedroom defensive gun as well as my carry so no problem there). A very very valuable lesson.

BTW there was one in the chamber (Corbon Powerball ) and the safety was off. Apparently Taurus has fixed the problem they had with this gun (Goggle: Taurus PT111 dropped gun lawsuit)... either that or this really is my lucky day.

Whew, Talk about the pucker factor! Glad the Taurus didn't go off! BTW, off topic, did the 24/7's have the same safety problem at the PT111s?

I had a pucker factor as well last month. same type issue except my .45 GI was cocked and locked. Now I know those things take a beating but I decided right then that I should trade off that gun and get a 1911 with a beavertail to take the impact from a floor fall instead of a direct fall on an exposed hammer.

That's a scary story, but a valuable lesson for all of us. Thanks for the post. It will undoubtedly help us all be safer and more aware. :tiphat:

Thanks, karder. It's now after lunch and what happened is still flashing through my mind. I (and my wife) are very lucky to be alive and unharmed. I will never forget the sound of that "click".
If my holster wasn't so comfortable and (dare I say it) forgettable I don't think I would have neglected to stow it properly... and the fact that my new (stiff) Galco gun belt kept my pants in a circular "o" made it easier for the holster to just flop over and allow the gun to spill out.

Believe you me, I will not allow this to happen again.

On the day of my mishap (dropping my gun) I decided that if it really was my lucky day that I should buy a lotto ticket.
Well, I did on the way home from work that evening. I bought five of them for Wednesday the 6th.
Guess what?
I won three bucks! I couldn't believe it... so if you feel like your luck is really running good for ya... give the lotto a shot. It might pay off. (Too bad it wasn't a little larger... but what the hey) ;-)
