Hi I'm looking for a IDPA match here in Houston anyone got any club suggestions? I'm completely new to the competitive shooting area so any tips or advice would be great. Thanks :tiphat:

Look here:

Besides the "Houston" listings, you also have Thunder in Conroe, PSC in Friendswood, one in Hempstead.

I believe you can find at least one fun match each week in the area.

We would love to have you join us at Thunder Tactical Shooters in Conroe. We have a weekly Wednesday night match - starts at 6:30 PM with new shooter orientation at 6:00 PM. There is a $10 range fee and a $5.00 club fee. You will need 100 rounds of ammo.

We have a Saturday Match on the second Saturday of the month - this coming Saturday! Match starts at 9:00 AM, new shooter orientation at 8:30 AM. There is the range fee and a $8.00 club fee. You will need 150 rounds of ammo.

It is a good idea to come to either match at least 15-30 minutes early to allow for sign-in.

The equipment you will need are a handgun, a belt, a holster for your handgun, at least 2 but should have 3 magazines, a magazine holder, and hearing and eye protection.

If you decide to join us this week, dress warm and wear foot gear appropriate for muddy conditions.

That sounds like a lot of fun. Is there anything like this in the DFW area?

Collin County IDPA is a big IDPA club with one or more matches each week near Greenville.
Very welcoming to new shooters. Match Schedule, locations, and more info on the site. (Scroll Down to Match Schedule)

Lots of good info for new shooters on the website, too.

Cool. Thanks guys. I think I might really enjoy that. I, like many others, am pretty busy the rest of this year. I bookmarked both sites and will check the schedules for next year later.

I do have a question about equipment, though. When they say "belt holster" do they just mean a holster that is on the belt and not a shoulder holster? I'm guessing that my blackhawk on my hip is okay, right?

EDIT: Never mind. I just went back and looked more thoroughly.

We'd enjoy having you come check us out and shoot with us at Shiloh Tactical Shooters near Willowbrook Mall. We shoot Thursday nights, 7-9 PM at Shiloh Indoor Gun Range. We generally have about 10-15 shooters and plenty of newbies to a dynamic form of shooting fun. - Keith
