Re: Strange Sign
It does say "unless authorized by law". I presume that would mean CHL'ers are allowed to carry. I don't know what the Ohio thing would be about.

Re: Strange Sign
To me it looks like the business selected the first sign from the compliancesigns.com web site, this is the first sign displayed when searching for "firearms" or "no guns".

Re: Strange Sign
You are likely looking at one of the following 3 scenarios. Number 3 is my personal favorite:chuckybrown wrote:Saw this today posted on a building I went into today here in Houston. OHIO?
1) The business wanted to post a sign prohibiting weapon possession, and they looked for the most comprehensive one available from a company that produces workplace safety and compliance signs without looking into legal requirements.
2) A company based in Ohio distributed the same signage to its locations in multiple states.
3) A sly RKBA advocate was ordered to post the property to prohibit weapon possession on the premises, and he or she quite consciously selected an impressive looking sign that has no legal standing in TX. The result is that everybody is happy. The boss and liberal employees get to enjoy the cool looking sign that they think makes them much safer, and the mentally competent employees and clients retain their ability to protect themselves. What's not to like?

It kinda reminds me of the signs in liquor stores.

I guess I'll leave my dangerous ordnance at home... I typically carry a fragmentation grenade or two (legally registered and NFA tax paid, of course) in case I need to clear a room full of Al Qaeda terrorists from my local Quikie Mart.

Re: Strange Sign
I always chuckle when I see what I call "Idiot Signs" - you know the ones (like the one posted above), they quote something like "Such and such law prohibits this...." and you know full well that it doesn't, but the average Joe/Jane looks at the sign and thinks that if it's in a sign then it MUST be the law.
I'm the publishing business (trade journals), maybe I should get a side business going...what do y'all think? I could sell non-compliant 30.06 signs...(you know: wrong wording, wrong size, etc)...it would make the idiots feel all warm and fuzzy but it wouldn't have any legal teeth and any TX CHL'er worth their salt would know the true intentions of the sign but know that they'd be legal...just saying....

Re: Strange Sign
The sign was adjacent to the front door of a Surgical Center......Not a hospital, mind you, but a building that only does outpatient surgeries.

I once saw a 30.06 notice posted in Arkansas.

I'd like to agree with Excaliber's opinion above AND suggest that it's best to "let sleeping dogs lie"...if you get my drift.

Re: Strange Sign
I found this on a website where you can order a no gun zone sign...
You can order from any state. (Once you post your signs... even the most Hardened Criminals will feel hard pressed to follow this Sign)
No Weapons Sign:
Gun-related crime and accidents are a pressing issue across the country-violence affects us all. A No Weapons Sign and a bold graphic gives a stern warning that violence is not tolerated. A sign can warn visitors that such activity is illegal, even when you are not there. Protect your grounds with a range of heavy-duty security signs - ideal for a variety of schools, playgrounds, businesses, and other public placed. Send a message to weapon owners: keep your guns at home.
• Promote a serious no-weapons policy on your premises. Don't let the threat of gun incidents or violence undermine the security of your property, or the safety of your patrons.
• A bold red-circle graphic crosses all language borders. A clear sign keeps firearms away.
• A sign is one of the most consistent statements you can make. Signs are hard to ignore, and make your patrons aware of your standards and regulations.
• Heavy-duty, laminated vinyl and aluminum construction can give you years of security protection. Choose from a bold selection of colors, shapes, and messages for your property.
• Hover over each design to see material and pricing details. Most signs are available in durable, rust-proof aluminum. Some designs are available in economical plastic or pressure-sensitive vinyl, depending on your particular needs.

Re: Strange Sign
Oh, lookie here. We better not try to rob this place, they don't allow weapons. It says so right there on the sign.

Re: Strange Sign
I"m guessing that sign is only valid on Ohio Street, in Houston, Texas
Ohio St
Houston, TX 77047
(Just kidding, ... funny sign)
That sign came from here:
http://www.compliancesigns.com/NHE-5332 ... Ohio.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And I agree, CHLs are "authorized by law", even if that sign held water, which it doesn't.
