MTAC Rubbing

I have searched on this forum and on other search engines trying to find this answer. So I come to this community for their expertise.

I have a MTAC iwb that was originally used to carry my xd-sc carried at the 3:00 slot. The screws were at the bottom holes of the clips. I loved it and didn't have a problem. I finally took the plunge and ordered a kydex shell from Comp-Tac to start carrying my Kimber Pro Carry II.

My question is that my Kimber's grips rub on the side where I carry, which is at the 3:00 adjusted to the 3rd and 4th slots on the clips. I noticed after carrying all day today that the beaver tail was also poking my side. Has anybody had this happen and what did you do? I usually where khakis and a button down tucked in. I have tried both t-shirt tucked over and in front of the holster.

I wear a tucked in undershirt under whatever I'm wearing, makes it better, not directly rubbing on my skin. Plus, down here in the summer, you have to wear an undershirt if you want to stay cool.

So far, the only thing I've been able to do to eliminate beaver tail poking and rubbing completely is to wear OWB at about 2:30

May not work on you, everyone's different. You'll have to adjust and see what works best.

That's one of the benefits of the 1911 platform, it presses tightly right up against you compared to some others. This can be both good and bad.

Switch from boxers to briefs and this will resolve your issues.

I agree with wearing the t-shirt. That makes all the difference for me.

You're pics must be mirror image. Makes it look like you are wearing left handed, but the word 'Polo' on the pants tell me that the pic is mirror image for some reason. Doesn't really affect your description. I think we all still understand your problem. Just wanted to point it out. You might one day post a pic where it does matter if the pic is mirror image.

I carry an ultra sized Kimber in an MTAC at the 9:00 position and I always wear a T-shirt tucked into my pants underneath the holster precisely because I don't like the feel of the gun against my skin. And BTW, it's not just the 3" Kimber that does it. I have holster shells for my MTAC for a USP Compact .40, and a Springfield 5" 1911. All three pistols rub against my side when using the MTAC.

But in fairness to the MTAC, at least it has an abbreviated sweat shield that helps somewhat; because I also own a Galco Royal Guard IWB holster for the Kimber, and a Galco Summer Comfort IWB holster for the USP, and both guns rub my side with those holsters too. So the real issue for me isn't the manufacturer or style of IWB holster; it is IWB carry in its totality. The solution is an undershirt, tucked into your pants, under the holster.

Plus, wearing the undershirt will protect your firearm from your sweat and the acids it contains.

By the way, when I carry the USP or the 5" 1911 these days, I carry them OWB, and concealment really isn't a problem... ...and I still have to wear a T-shirt tucked into my pants because I'm a fat tub of goo and there's that little matter of "love handles."

Briefs run to far up my leg after sitting, so thats no bueno. I have done the t-shirt and it does work pretty well. I just haven't worn a t-shirt under any shirt in a very long time. When I posted originally, I had only worn my 1911 for a day or two, but around yesterday it started to feel better and not rub, even without a t-shirt on. Guess you just have to toughen the skin a little bit.

I appreciate the comments everybody. Just wanted to see if anybody else was doing something I haven't thought of.

Try lowering the holster, if you can. I lowered mine one notch and it made all the difference.

Have you tried carrying at 4:00? I know everyone has their preferences about where/how to carry but it may help to get the grip out of your side and the beaver tail in a slightly less obtrusive position. I was also going to suggest adjusting the belt clips so that the holster sits just slightly lower, if possible.
