Wanted to say hello to everyone

#1

Post by 5.0 svo »

Hello I just wanted to say hello to everyone on the forum. I have been reading some of the posts you guys have been making. I must say that you guys have restored some of my faith in civilization. I was beginning to think that all the "gun toter's" in Texas didn't have any value for human life other than their own.
I do believe people have the right to carry a weapon/ I think with that should come a responsibility. In the old west days it was disgraceful to shoot a man in the back. Now days all anyone cares about is if its legal or not.

Welcome 5.0 liter (302 cubic inch) Special Vehicle Operations Mustang man, if I guessed correctly.

Yes, we on the forum tend to be appreciative of our right to defend ourselves
with whatever particular firearm fits our hands and our wallets.

Have you received your plastic yet? What gun(s) do you intend to carry?

If you go to the forum's UCP (User Control Panel) you can set up your profile to show your
hometown (or at least a general area of your choice) and you can also set up the "Signature" line
with up to 300 characters. Mine always has my gun on the top line, but then I change the quote
below the gun each time I log on.

I agree, I think that among those carrying a weapon there should be more concern for life than one's own. That said, I also believe that if someone threatens my life, they have decided that neither their life nor my life is important to them and would not hesitate to shoot in defense of my life - because I care about my life, even if my attacker does not.

I have never been forced to draw on another human being and I hope I don't ever have to. I know that presented with a living, breathing human and not a paper silhouette I would have a surge of emotion (especially in the aftermath)...but I also know that should it be a life-or-death situation I would choose my life over an attacker's.

I would like to add that I've always been taught/told that in Western days it was actually very common to shoot another man in the back. They didn't have honorable "quick draw" shoot outs like in the movies. ;)

Welcome to the forum and I'm glad you joined! Hope to see you around frequently.

I have been listening to some gun owners (on another website)talking about killing criminals just because they can and I am down right disgusted. How could anyone get pleasure from taking another mans life?
The law defines murder (one of the ten commandments). And depending on if its daylight or dark can make you a hero or a murderer. I think the common denominator should always be you were in fear for your life. 18 years ago I was a criminal and it was because I didnt know any better. I am not trying to justify anything. I just think that the punishment should fit the crime, or atleast the intent of the crime.

Hey back at you. Yes, I think its true that from reading the posts on this forum a person could get the idea that, at least in Texas, anyone with a CHL has been deputized to be some type of vigilante or super hero. I don't want others to think that about me.

Feel free to express yourself and your position. It encourages others to speak out so the public can understand the entire range of beliefs associated with people who choose to have a CHL.

Did you guys hear about the shooting in Ft Worth. 2 men invaded a home and were shot and killed. Both (maybe just 1)of them died outside. 1 was trying to get in his car and the home owner chased him out to his car and unloaded on him. The other died in the street I believe.
The news story doesnt have very good details. Anyone got any info on that?

Hi 5.0svo, and welcome to the forum! :tiphat: As you can see, there is a wealth of information here right at your fingertips and a wonderful bunch of people to get to know. Glad to have you with us.

A lot of what you will see here is centered around conflict resolution and avoidance of using deadly force. A CHL is charged with an awesome responsibility for using their training, education, restraint and common sense when a deadly force encounter is immanent. Using deadly force in a situation comes with consequences that many of us do not even want to contemplate. It would be a truly a live changing event for one who defends himself/herself against the attacker.

It is from these discussions that we learn.

I haven't heard of the shooting in Ft.Worth. When did it happen, and where did you hear of it?

I agree with you 100%. My life is more valuable to me then almost anyone that would threaten my life. But... I feel like if I took another mans life unnecessarily then I would never be able to forgive myself.

Here is one of the comments someone made about the whole situation. This is the kinda people I have been arguing with.

"So your opinion is to let the maggot go, send him to prison for a couple of months if that and hope he doesn't do it again?
OR is the next step to spend MORE taxpayer money on the scumbag and try to "reform" the dummy.

You sound like a Democrap and your half wit line of thinking is what messed up this country in the first place. You need to run for political office... no wait... you can't because you are a crook yourself.
The cheapest thing to do is have open season hunting on illegals, unemployed hobos and ex-cons like yourself. It would save tax payer money in the long run and create more American jobs.

That planet of the apes looking family you voted for would probably let you work for them."

Wow. I can't believe someone was so rude and hateful!! And to take killing someone so lightly is despicable. But I must admit that before I joined the forum and started reading it daily, I was afraid that those would be the same ideas here---If you were anything except a far right wing, ultra conservative vigilante wanna be then you would be treated badly and talked down to. My favorite thing about this site is that when you post something, no one will judge you or be rude. Everyone is very respectful of others opinions and will intelligently and maturely discuss topics without becoming personal and hateful.

How would you relate this to say street racing? Its illegal to street race and they are putting your life in danger as well as their own life.

It does not relate at all, in my opinion. Street racing is illegal yes. But it is not deliberate aggression and violence directed at you, or anyone else. Unless of course they are aiming their car right at you, intent on doing you bodily injury or death.

There is no justification in using deadly force against someone you observe street racing.

Read Chapter 2 of the Handbook issued to all CHL holders. It is dedicated to deadly force statutes:

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/LS-16.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Those people on the other forums are complete idiots, and will spend a VERY long time in prison if they ever commit an act like they brag about doing. They are obviously ignorant of the laws.

Guys, be careful with 5.0 SVO. He's not giving the whole story of his actions/attitude/stance from the other forum. Just a FYI.
