CNN had a link to their iReport site and their report said it was friggin terrorist who stole uniforms and attacked the base by conducting surveillance...

I love the accuracy of the media today. It seems they will say anything to be heard.

Does anyone know if we have any forum folks who may be residents or employees of Ft. Hood?

Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, soldiers and families at Ft. Hood. This is a terrible tragedy.

CNN just piggybacked on a CBS News report from a Lt. Gen. on base that all fatalities AND BOTH SHOOTERS are US Army soldiers.

Ugh ...

The places they hit have a high concentration of troop movement on a daily basis. One area has WLC and BNCOC soldiers taking classes on a daily basis along with troops preparing to deploy. The other is a PX (Military form of Wal-Mart).

Seems to me they did their research and knew where the highest concentration of troops were gonna be. Also, today is Thursday which is WLC graduation. LOTS AND LOTS of family and other troops at Howze theater and surrounding area today.

Note: I know this info due to recently (2006-2008) being stationed at Ft. Hood as Active Duty.

I expect nothing less (or more) from CNN. They thoroughly disgust me. I would like to see some punishment dealt for making-up stories like this, especially with the gravity of this situation.

ABC Radio just reported 12 dead, including a local police officer, plus 31 wounded. All shooting was done with handguns, apparently. One shooter is in custody, one was shot to death at the scene. The report said the shooters and all the dead and wounded (except the police officer) were active duty soldiers.

Prayers ascend.

ETA: The reports were from a press conference by a General at Ft. Hood.

Edit #2: Killed shooter's name - Maj. Malik Hassan.

Maj Malik Nadal Hasan is being named as the dead shooter. :smash:

I'm editing for name and rank as I'm listening to WBAP live update.

This is just awful.

News here is saying the shooters used personal weapons not military weapons. Hand guns....... News is saying that their sources are saying that vehicles are rarely checked at the gate so it's not hard for them to get weapons/ammo on base.

Interview with KBH seems to indicate that she knows about a motive but isn't saying anything yet.

I'll take the first jump and say it..........Does anyone else think it's going to turn out to be announced that the shooters were converted Muslims?

Ciao ya'll....rg

Keep in mind that "iReport" is comprised of video reports from normal people not formally affiliated with the media, and that CNN has not cleared these as being accurate in any way shape or form *unless* their "stamp of approval" is on it. That said, the anger at this report shouldn't necessarily be directed at CNN, but rather at the poster of this "news".

I am so sorry to hear that all dead and wounded (except the police officer) were the soldiers who fight for us so that we do not have to. They should not have to worry about one of their own turning on them, and my thoughts are with the families of those who will not be coming home tonight.

Rotgirl - MSNBC will probably report that the next logical step is banning all weapons from military bases, right? :headscratch Or...oh wait. They need to know how to use those to shoot bad guys! Huh. So what to do?
Those shooters could use their own weapons or gov't-issued weapons but it doesn't matter in the end - they used lethal weapons on other human beings for no reason. It's not the weapon's fault but the shooter's fault. I wish I could say I'm hopeful for reporting leaning more towards the view of "guns don't kill people, people kill people" but I know that's not the most probable outcome.

Three shooters
picked busy times at graduation
I am sure this will be hushed up but can we call it already?

I'm already sick and tired of these idiot TV talking heads who keep assuming out loud that US soldiers on a post in the 48 US states walk around armed all day as if they were in a theater of war overseas. One such moron (British accent, bad 80s hairdo, on Fox News) just said "...what's strange is this report that the shooters used handguns and not the M16 normally issued to soldiers on base". Another reporter theorized that there must have been large shootouts on base between the "bad guys" and all the soldiers on base who would all be carrying firearms because it is "wartime".
