My point is, I understand what its like going through tough times, my family went through tough times in the early 90's but my Father didnt go to the corner and beg, he worked terrible night jobs at Liquor Stores, Gas Stations, until he got back on his feet.
There are crappy jobs out there, but they pay and require little to no training. There's a reason they call the Shovel the "Idiot Spoon" because any idiot can use one.
The majority of the Panhandlers you see in Austin are Drug Addicts, Drunks, and Lazy, the only reason they are "Homeless" is because they choose to be. THere are REAL homeless people out there but they are the ones washing dishes, bushing brooms, ect. Give the money you would give to homeless to the Red Cross, your Local Church, dont just hand out cash to crazys on the side of the road with Meth mouth.
I love the Charlie Hodge show. Always good for a laugh intimidate-a-saurus rex is what he calls the local bums around Austin who will throw things at your car and go as far as rock your vehicle back and forthd strokes wrote:I have seen on multiple occasions, several bums get out of a white, unmarked van, and proceed to panhandle. I do not ever give money to these people.
I have however, given food to one really old dude that looked like he needed it. He thanked me vigorously.
There is a difference between being homeless and panhandling. Most people who listen to the Charlie Hodge Halftime Show would agree![]()
Basically, if they are on the corner at your nearest intersection, they are panhandling (which is illegal in downtown Austin, IIRC). If they are downtown on 6th, beggin for money from drunks, they are probably homeless - The ARCH is nearby.
He actually mentions the "white van" thing several times and according to him they are organized and have to pay the "white van" off the top of what they collect in return for something....marksiwel wrote:I love the Charlie Hodge show. That's genius.gwtrikenut wrote:Want a sure fire way to stop them in their tracks? When they approach and ask for a hand out, ask them if they have change for a twenty. Almost everytime they will say yes. Then just tell them since they do, they don't need your money. It really upsets them, but they always leave. Once in a while you will get a dirty look or a look of you got me this time.
