"Shooting Of Suspect By Store Employee Questioned
Pam Harris
Reporting
(CBS 11 News) DALLAS Tuesday afternoon a man was listed in critical condition at a north Texas hospital. Police say he was shot Monday night after holding up a convenience store in southeast Dallas.
The shooting Monday night brings up the question of just what rights people have when it comes to guns. With more and more robbery suspects being bold enough to threaten to kill - what rights do victims have to protect themselves?
Monday night, a would-be robber enters a convenience store in south Dallas and allegedly threatens a worker, who then pulls a gun and shoots the intruder. Now police are investigating if the store owner had the right to shoot.
According to Lt. Rick Watson, with the Dallas Police Department, “If an individual comes up to another individual with his hand in his pocket, and makes a gesture as if, that he or she has a gun... and you believe that this individual is armed and you are in fear of your life then you are justified in protecting yourself."
The owner of an indoor shooting center in Garland says he's seeing more people come in to buy guns for protection.
“I am seeing an increase number of people, especially women, who are concerned about their personal protection," said Tom Mannewitz, Target Master Center.
Fifteen states have now changed their laws when it comes to the right to shoot in self defense. It's a move that isn't sitting well with anti-gun activists.
The change isn’t sitting well with anti-gun activists like Peter Johnson. “Guns aren't gonna save you; you're more likely to be shot by your own gun than to shoot somebody. That's what the statistics prove."
Johnson offers a solution to the problem. “We should try to; from the time the child is in the first grade, we ought to be teaching that child about non-violence and to respect human life and how sacred human life is."
While the suspect in Monday night's shooting remains hospitalized, the store employee is waiting to see whether or not he will face charges.
"The last thing you really ever want to do is take another life and about the only reason to do that is to protect a life, you forfeit a life to save a life," Mannewitz said.
A lot of issues must be resolved in cases where a weapon is used as protection. A person has a right to carry a gun if they are not a convicted felon, but they must have a permit.
Dallas police say Monday night’s shooting is still under investigation.

Two things come to mind when I read those two paragraphs.
First thing being - in all the years I have lived in households with firearms - or while I was in the Army - I was never shot. Not once. Go figure.
Second - the folks who need the "life is precious, its more important than your next crack fix" are the folks who are going to knife you during that speech for the $20 bucks in your wallet. Another wonderful solution. Even if it helps EVERY child that is born from today forward, it doesn't fix all the kids already screwed up or all the adults that are not ever going to change their attitude towards other individuals. So basically that is a great fix for 1% of the worlds population - all the kids that are still entirely impressionable.
Again - a idealistic dreamer patch for a world the anti's have completely lost touch with. They act like we all live in Mr Roger's neighborhood.

Who is "We" exactly? This is just like saying, have no fear, "they" will protect us. It amazes me that people whom subscribe to this way of thinking can actually function in society. I wonder if Johnson will feel guilty if he becomes a victim because his attacker wasn't raised properly or will he wish HE had the power to save himself.

Set aside for a moment whether you believe the Bible or not.The change isn’t sitting well with anti-gun activists like Peter Johnson.
Consider: Cain, the very first child, jealous because his brother Abel had something that he didn't, uses a rock to kill his unsuspecting brother Abel.
This happened roughly 1000+ years before the Egyptians developed ink & paper for writing in 2500 BC. Soooooo, even if the Jewish People made this story up, two things are crystal clear to me:
1) After 6000 years we still kill each other for no good reason, regardless of our "raisin's"
2) A gun is not the source of the cause behind a murder.
---------------------------------------
"Brother Found Bludgeoned with Rock"
Abel, Son of Adam, was found this morning, apparently stoned to death in a field near his home. Police have taken in Abel's brother, Cain, for questioning.
Witnesses say that Cain, apparently upset over his offering being rejected by God, became angry at Abel for figuring out how to sacrifice correctly. He then proceeded to find a large sedimentary rock, an imported type composed of Gneiss & Limestone, (commonly known as the GL Rocks or "GLocks" as the locals refer to them.)
Cain and Abel were last seen together heading into one of the fields around dusk, where later Abel's body was found, with mulitple head wounds and an estimated 17 shiny fragments from the GLock scattered around.
Tom Mannewitz, a local Rock Collector and dealer, stated "People around here are just not feeling as safe as they used to, going about town and to the fields. I have a lot of folks come in looking to find a good pocket rock for protection. Most of the knowlegable folks, the true rock collectors, carry around a Granite Igneous rock weighing in at .45 Minas. Some consider these G.I. .45s as old school compared to the GLocks, but let me tell you the .45s are Big & Scary when you pull them out, and they may be slow to swing but they bring a wallop when they connect!"
Peter Johnsonberg, a noted Child Psychologist and Anti-Rock person, had this to say: "Rocks aren't going to save you. You're more likely to drop the rock on your foot, or trip over it at night going to the bathroom, according to statistics. Cain was obviously brought up incorrectly, and through my teaching skills parents in the future will teach their children to respect all life, and stay away from those bad GLocks and G.I. .45s. We are going to nip this murderous behavior in the bud..."

Ain't this the truth. Of course out lawing rocks works for me, I have way too many in my yard! The Marshal wrote:

I agree with Johnson, but probably approach it a little differently. On the way to and returning from the range with my kids, we discuss conflict avoidance and safe gun handling techniques. I respect human life and want them to understand how sacred human life is. I also want them to understand that evil exists in this world and it will not simply go away if ignored.Johnson offers a solution to the problem. “We should try to; from the time the child is in the first grade, we ought to be teaching that child about non-violence and to respect human life and how sacred human life is."
i can't believe this guy still believes that. 100 million guns in America, 30,000 deaths a year (most of which are gang bangers taking themselves out.) 1 to 2.5MILLION DGU (Defensive Gun Uses, counting the times no shots are even fired and the BG runs off)The change isn’t sitting well with anti-gun activists like Peter Johnson. “Guns aren't gonna save you; you're more likely to be shot by your own gun than to shoot somebody. That's what the statistics prove."
someone that is going to KILL you over what you have in your wallet or what type of car you drive is not human. if he wants to talk about the sanctity of life what about the family I'm going to leave fatherless when i curl up in the fetal position and die.Johnson offers a solution to the problem. “We should try to; from the time the child is in the first grade, we ought to be teaching that child about non-violence and to respect human life and how sacred human life is."

The sad truth will be this:
As soon as it (crime; some Bad Guy kills one of his immediate family) This guy WILL change his tune.
Not that I want it to happen, but that's what it will take, something up close and very personal.
I've seen it happen several times.
Staunch this or that, then it happens to them, and they do a 180! No matter what it is, religion, affair, politics, gun ownership etc. The story's been told thousands of times, unfortunatelly it takes "experience" to gain a true education, if you follow my true meaning.
