Shipping guns via USPS

Someone mentioned on another thread that you usually have to declare a gun when you ship it.
Daddy recently needed to ship a gun back to the manufacturer. He said UPS wanted too much. He called USPS, and they said that he could ship the gun unloaded. It was significantly less.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

I shipped my little Kel-Tec P-32 back to Kel-Tec in June.
I shipped normal ground UPS with no special declartion.
They received the P-32 and repaired it and shipped it back to me overnight air.

I was happy with their service, but not with the gun. I sold it.

What kind of gun?

Same experience here with the Keltec P32. I never could get that thing to go "bang" reliably. Traded it for some really nice electronic ear muffs. Best trade I ever made!

My understanding is that us average folk can send long guns (rifle or shotgun) via USPS but if it is a handgun, we have to send it via a carrier like FedEx or UPS.

If you have an FFL, you can ship via USPS. I do business with an FFL close by and have had him ship handguns for me, since it comes out way cheaper than the steep overnight fees from FedEx.

Not all FFLs: only dealers and manufacturers.

C&R FFLs cannot mail handguns.
