it is scary . thats why i try to preach training as much as possible, and advertise opportunities when they present themselfs.
there is such a plethora of information about the technique of gunfighting and fighting, and the psycological and phisiological aspect of gunfights and fights that it is overwhelming. but once you start learning all about it; you become addicted for more information.

I don't know any CHL holders like that personally. However, in my CHL class, there were several older (70+) guys in there for renewal that admitted they had not shot since their last renewal class. SCARY!
There was a couple of renewers in our class that fessed up to not shooting since there last renewal. It did strike me as odd.
Wonder how long it's been since they had their teeth cleaned too????lol

I think far to many people, LEOs and not, don't know they need to shoot more. They passed so why hassle with it. It isn't required so who cares. I know the type and even those who don't clean their guns until it doesn't work properly anymore. I don't understand it because I like to shoot. I like to practice. I like to stay current on the laws. Just like I can't understand those who only carry sometimes. But, that is how some people are. They will always do the minimum of what they think they have to. I know CHL holders that think they are experts because they have the license in their pocket. They haven't learned anything since they left the class but they know everything. Same with some LEOs. I don't understand it other than they are just showing off and think they can manipulate their way thru what they don't know. It is all fine to me. But, they better not hurt anyone I care for. Which I am sure is something they have NEVER thought about.

Our CHL instructor, a current LEO/Instructor with a v large PD and former SWAT team leader 12yrs, showed us some staggering 'shoot' numbers on regular large city patrolmen and Swat or Special Services Teams around the country.
While don't have the numbers handy here at work...the patrolman's average hit on target ,in real gunfight situations is 29% (that's 1 out of 3 shots will hit its target>v scary), while Swat/Special Services is 98-99%.
The difference....the patrolman must pay for his own ammo, and hit the range on his own time; while SWAT receives everything ammo/time = free, and departments insists that SWAT range and course time be part of their ongoing training, activity....
I hit the range once a week and go through a minimum of 100-200 rounds per week; because it's the practice, and training that may save my life or that of my wife (she is CHL too). I'm not a 'gun-ho' CHLer and I hope I never have to use my weapon ...but I know that if my life depends on it...I've done my time in repeated practice, training and muscle memory and vision will help me!
I think it's really deplorable of those PD's policy/ treatment for the regular LEO on the street- our first line of protection - they must pay out of his own pocket and their own time! We CHLers have agreed to ' take the higher road ' in conduct and responsibility and now part of that responsbility is to insist PDs provide the facilities, time and ammo for our LEOs! Do your part and make a call inquiry today to your local Chief!
If we have to fire; let's make sure we hit the BGs...not innocent victims!

CATS
Well I don't know about other armed citizen. I go through about 600 rounds of 9mm at a minimum per month at the range. That is the minimum of 7,200 rounds per year. That doesn't count any other calibers.
I think what she meant was that a LEO may use his/her firearm on different circumstances. ie: Seeing the BG shooting at civilians, and the BG coming straight at them. Civilians however usually use his/her firearm when his/her life is in danger. So the chances of LEO using his/her weapon is far greater than the typical civilian, thus skewed the hit ratio data.
I could be wrong though.
I'm also a true believer of practice as much as one can. I believe it is the duty for everyone who carries to place their shots accurately to avoid collateral damage.
Only my wallet knows how much $$ I've spent on ammo, reloading equipment and materials just to practice often.
