When BGs have full-autos, albeit illegally in most cases, the police can't afford to be out-gunned. The BGs had Thompson's before the Feds did and then the Feds got them too.

I'm not going to defend the ninja suits, but rather offer a possible explanation. I think they use them for the intimidation factor. When a SWAT team is needed we're not talking about your average traffic stop here. There's a very bad guy (or girl) that needs to be stopped and when the good guys (or girls) have to go face to face with someone every ounce of and advantage they can muster helps them go home to their kids another night.

The wrong house thing really sucks. I wish there was a foolproof way to prevent that from ever happening again.

There is..........good intel that's been double checked, good police work and the ability to read street addresses.

And start holding those that make these mistakes accountable, until that happens why should they change if they get a free pass? And I am pro LEO. But there are some that are out of control. Its still a job.

Many SWAT officers work jobs other than being SWAT cops, up to and including drug interdiction, and undercover buys. By working these cases, especially if they are undercover officers, they actually NEED to wear a face mask to prevent further identification by the suspects when they serve a warrant. In some cases, it's prudent for officer safety to not be identified.

Also, remember that many officers wear nomex hoods, like a fire fighter. These serve an additional purpose of protecting the face from flames or flash fire that might otherwise injure them. You guys think about deploying a flash bang device and having something like a couch erupt in flames next to you. If you bought a face full of couch stuffing on fire, you'd be wishing for a good nomex hood too.

Because a good set of ear protection lets you ignore it.

I apologize for the bad link in my earlier post. Here's the story on the LRAD device:

EXACTLY! They should have to pay for their mistake.

Gemini, I agree, and that's why I used the word foolproof. Everyone makes mistakes, but with something like this they've got to check everything more than just twice.

shewt, my MRI scanner emits 120dBs, typically for 30mins. We just give folks some Ear Plugs, and say, "Have a good'en!"
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
