hhhmmmm.... I just left my favorite country style boy toy store about 10:30 p.m. with a like new Stainless Ruger M77 Mark II .243 with a Boyds gray laminate stock, new Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 scope, and a box of 100 grainers for $500.

Well, this has been quite a walk through the garden of used gun prices!

Not all of us are hagglers like joe817/others, but that's great if you are up on
so many prices and have the haggling gene.

While at the Fort Worth gun show around January 2009 I saw a brand new XDM 9 for
some unbelievable price like $489. I felt they must have priced it wrong since I
believe a new XDM9 is ~ $589. I had just gotten my Taurus though, so I did not
jump on the mispriced XDM.

I just paid $410 for a NIB XD40 Service last week on GunBroker - and that was the "buy it now" price...

At the beginning of last month, I paid $489 for a NIB Springfield G.I..

I saw a used 5" Kimber in good condition at the Ft. Worth gun show last weekend for something in the $600 range - about 55%-60% of the MSRP price for a new one. That's not too bad.

And that was the "sticker" price? That's what I'm talking about! And an EXCELLENT deal...unless that's a more or less common price for that class of a used Kimber, which I doubt...just because of their reputation of high end 1911's.

Yeah, I was wishing that I had 600 some odd dollars in my pocket at the time, because that was a great deal. It was a Custom TLE II, which has a new MSRP of $1044.00 (apparently, I remembered the NIB price as being a little bit higher than that), so a price in the $600-$700 range still wasn't too bad. My local favorite emporium of death usually sells Kimbers for a somewhat discounted price. For instance, I bought a Stainless Ultra Carry II with night sights from them last year for $929.00. Kimber lists that gun for $1089.00. So assuming the same 15% discount (which would be much harder to find these days), they would have sold that TLE II new in the box for $890.00 — a darn good deal if you could find one at that price today. So a used one in pretty good condition for $200-$290 less than that is a good deal. Let's say the used gun I saw was selling for $699 (I don't remember the exact price; I just remember that it was under $700), that's still only 67% of the NIB price. (A friend of mine just bought a Pro Carry II a week ago from the same shop where I bought my UCII, and he paid $845 for the base model, when Kimber currently lists MSRP as $888 for the same gun, so deep discounts are a thing of the past for the time being.)

I just think that you have to keep your eyes peeled, know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold 'em.
