My husband's job is sending him to NY, needless to say, I'm also going.
I am more than uncomfortable with this "living" arrangement!
We both carry everytime we leave the house. Inside the house, guns are loaded and placed conveniently.
We can't even own guns in NY, let alone carry! It has to be 6months residency before you can even apply! I am just shocked at the gun laws and the jumping through hoops to possibly get a license. I just don't know what to do.
Any comforting words?

NY City, which is a different country, or NY State? Would you be close enough to VT or CT to live in either place and take advantage of their laws.
My parents dragged me out of my native San Antonio when I was too young to defend myself and made me grow up in upstate NY. Good woodchuck hunting and a couple of great places to hang out in Woodstock (the real one), East Durham, South Westerlo, and such.
I have a cousin living in CT. She rides a train to NY City where she works. Good sugestion jimlongley.

Lived upstate from 79-83. Upstate is beautiful. The City is, well, the city. Ugh!
Unless things have changed drastically, you can keep the guns you already have. My dad did back then. I don't think he purchased any new ones while we were there, though. I wasn't aware of CHLs at that time.

Sometimes things like this are some of the worst things imaginable...Especially coming from a state that understands the issue, and then having to move to a state that doesn't...Amost like moving to a foriegn country...
In my opinion, no job, no income, and almost no situation is worth moving to another location where my individual rights are infringed upon like they are here...I know upstate NY is not too bad, but still...

When I lived upstate NY I had a pistol permit but was only good for target shooting, hunting and fishing. No carry at all, must be cased while in your car. You would need a darn good reason to carry, had a friend that was a pharmacist and he had a carry license.
I've been flying weekly between Newark and Houston. I hate the fact that I can't carry here and was looking up possible alternatives but have found this area to be seriously anti-gun. There is NO WAY I would move here for that reason alone, much less the taxes they tolerate here.
My sympathies.
