Dispute resolution
Are there any videos pertaining to dispute resolution? I would like to make a stronger presentation in classes on this very important section of CHL class

If so, they would be (or need to be) on DPS' "approved" list. Not that such might not exist, but I can't say that I've seen any videos on the subject other than a short clip or two on the new $50 Power Point lesson plan (discussed in another thread here) available thru TCHA.

The whole portion of dispute resolution seems inappropriate for our needs as CHL instructors. Part of an effective self defense plan isnt to stand there and attempt to communicate with a potential threat (not literally of course, but the concept of message sent, message received, feedback etc. doesnt really apply). We should be teaching situational awareness and how to extricate oneself from a potentially dangerous encounter. Of course, this is my opinion and your mileage may vary.

I don't think this is particuarly why this is included in the course. I'm pretty sure this was specifically included to counter the anti's "There's going to be people shooting eachother over every minor arguement!" propaganda against CHL.
so DPS said "We'll add conflict resolution training to the course so that every minor scuffle doesn't result in a gunfight"
IANAL, YMMV, ITEOTWAWKI and all that.

The whole point of conflict resolution is there as a means to not allow yourself and the other(s) involved to escalate a situation. Road rage, the thread on shooting someone on your lawn, etc. are examples of this. As CHL holders, we cannot allow ourselves to get caught up in 'pushing buttons' on someone else, then when they are at the point to fight, use our CCW to resolve the conflict. How to deescalate and resolve the small issues before they turn large is important to teach in class. You all are getting off the subject.I just retired from the Texas Prison System.You learn real soon not to be a "John Wayne".Out in public is a lot,the same way.If you talk the talk,you need to be able to walk the walk,and this gets folks into trouble that they don't walk away from.I am getting lazy,and just thought there might be a disk to plug in that is not as boring as I am.

Rusty - sounds like you already have a good grasp on the concept. Unfortunately, you will have to put that into your own words for your presentation. As far as I know, there is no "plug and play" powerpoint for this. There is a lot of good info out there, but compressing it down into a managable byte that fits into your 10 hour day (while still covering everything else) is the hard part.
