With prices and availability, I'm skimping. However, I know these two will put a hole in the BG and that's what I need. I can't get too fancy or technical now.
when possible , you should carry hollow points as your self defense bullet .
there are many more advantages with hollow points .

Yeah, nomally done when I carried the .380 and DH does in the 9mm. 45s are freakin' expensive! :eek6

I'm not all read up on .45acp JHPs or looked at comparisons yet to see ballistics. That's another reason I haven't been to much in a hurry. Not sure what I'm looking at when do see a box on he shelf.
understandable ...
personally , i use Winchester Supreme Elite 230GR. JHP Bonded for now .

i have tested it in my gun , and it works well .
but im always on the look out for something better . ;-)

I'm kind of looking for plain ole' JHP's in 9mm.....the kind that don't cost $1.00/round. Any suggestions, anybody?

I'd try one of the Fiocchi rounds that Midway sells. Unfortunately, they seem to be in perpetual backorder.

>I just find it hilarious how they call some Ammunition 'Safety'.

Do not underestimate the power of marketing :-)

It had been suggested during the Winchester Black Talon fiasco that if they had been sold with a pink coating and called Rose Petal Safety Rounds, they might still be on the market in their original form.

From what I've read, various ballistics testing, denim plug tests, wound channel tests, etc... Federal HST's are considered the cream of the crop for .45ACP SD rounds.

Good luck finding them though.

Apparently, from reading other forums, Federal has stopped putting them on the retail market, because they are concentrating on filling their orders from Police Departments first. So until this run on ammunition stops, there's not much of a chance of finding them.

However, if you, or anyone else somehow miraculously finds some boxes... buy as many as you can. I will buy them from you (up to 1000rds), at 15% markup :)

I am wanting to put something in my new Slim, but haven't decided what, yet.
the bullet limitations and short barrel have limited my choices a bit, so far. I'm thinking FMJ's until I can find a HP that would expand reliabley out of that short barrel. I really don't think I have to worry about overpenetration with that thing, but I am concerned about bullet expansion. Do they make that Hornady Critical Defense in 9mm yet? Maybe a Corbon DPX... :headscratch
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

the only reason i ask , is that my Taurus mill pro is 1 inch thick , which sounds thin ,
until you tuck it in your britches . ;-)

just seems that something "slimmer " would be more comfortable .

i haven't had the chance to see one in person , but i'll be on the look out .

Here is a post from the The High Road http://www.thehighroad.org/showpost.php ... stcount=17" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; stating it was .92" wide.

Not sure it is accurate, but here is what they had compared to the PF9:

(text of the post)
----------PF9---------------709 slim
capacity--7+1---------------7+1
barrel-----3.1"---------------3.2"
OAL-------5.85"-------------6.2"
width-----.88" (grip/slide?)---.92" grips **
-----------------------------.97" slide
weight----14.7 oz empty-----19 oz (site doesn't state, assuming empty)

Looks to be fairly comparable to the pf9, I think it would fit nicely in the front pocket of my cargo shorts but not in my jeans. I want to get my hands on one, it sounds just about right for me

**(709 width measurements taken from colt1903's link, see post #10)

I recently started carrying HSTs in my .45s, in the standard pressure loads. I've got a box on hand - thanks to killerfly128 - but only just recently. But for years I've kept my HD pistols, and my carry pistols, stoked with the old Federal Hydro-Shoks, and I didn't feel under-armed or anything. I suppose that, as newer and better technologies come along, it's not a bad idea to upgrade, but that doesn't mean that old school won't be extremely effective. Lotsa guys been shot with Hydro-Shoks with pretty good results.

I've also got 3 boxes of Speer Gold Dot 230 grainers that look like a well designed bullet, but I don't know anything really about their performance. Even so, I wouldn't have a problem carrying them.
