Gov. Perry at McBride's guns in Austin
Was in McBride's in Austin today picking up some night sites, when someone tapped me on the shoulder real friendly like and I turned around and it was Governor Perry. He shook my hand and said "Hi friend" and then moved on. He was back-slapping and glad-handing everyone as he made his way to the back room apparently to pick up something (didn't see what). He was in very casual clothes (shorts and an "sportsman-type" button-front shirt) He stayed for about half an hour chatting with many of the sales guys and some customers, looking at different guns, some hunting photos someone had etc. I didn't get a chance to speak to him (plenty of others did), but it was kinda cool to see a sitting governor just walk into a gun store and sort of hang out like one of the guys. Didn't seem "staged" or "political" at all (no cameras, no media), just a real guy making a visit to the gun store like everyone else (of course, not everyone had two armed guards with visible ear buds & wires).

That's pretty neat. He seems to appreciate guns & hunting. A good man to have in our corner. I wonder if he's a member of this forum? If not, he should be!

It's going to get interesting when the governor's campaign heats up. Both Perry and Hutchison are well regarded by the NRA.

He was wearing a ballcap, but I'm sure underneath it was extremely well-groomedOldgringo wrote:How was his hair ?

It will interesting to watch both candidates campaigning. It's been a while since 2 pro-2A candidates have run against each other, in my memory.The Annoyed Man wrote:It's going to get interesting when the governor's campaign heats up. Both Perry and Hutchison are well regarded by the NRA.

When the Governor greeted you, were you carrying?
I don't get into McBride's very often. But when I do, I always have a "medical device" on my person.

Yes, Perry has a track record.
Hutchinson has slipped a little on 2A issues.
On that single issue I have to give Perry the nod. trouble with Perry is he sometimes forgets his campaign promises after the election - like securing the boarder.
And don't forget that TTC thing.
Take a look at Debra Medina. http://www.medinafortexas.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If Hutchinson adapted her platform, I'd vote for her.

Interesting. I've had much the same concerns about both Hutchison and Perry, but unlike you, I didn't know which I would give the edge to yet. I'm still learning about Texas politics. But I will agree that I was very concerned about Perry's positions regarding securing the border and the transportation corridor. That said, I thought that both candidates were far and away better than what many other states get served up. But I hadn't heard anything about Medina yet. Thanks for the link. She seems pretty impressive as an individual. I guess the question is whether or not she'll get squashed by the other two behemoths.Rex B wrote:Yes, Perry has a track record.

Hutchenson initially ran as a two term candidate. Was that 3 terms ago?
