July 2009 Applications

Re: July 2009 Applications
Thanks USA1. I really like that Kimber, its perfect for my size (5'10", 170, athletic build) and its a 1911 style. I am going to actually test fire a Pro Carry and the Ultra Carry and see which one I like the most, but I am almost 100% certain the Ultra Carry will be my favorite.
I am really anxious to get my CHL. My wife, newborn son, and I have had multiple incidents in our complex; a drug dealer who was apprehended by S.W.A.T. with his door kicked in, a number of burglaries and auto robberies, and every other reason I can think of to keep my family and I as safe as possible (we are very close to where the gentleman was killed outside the Dairy Queen thats been posted on these boards). I plan on sticking to my old Air Force motto...two to the chest, one in the head. None of that unloading my mag bullcrap like our CHL instructor told us to do. I also believe if our economy does not pull out of this recession soon, we may have more people desperate to resort to crime as a means of providing for themselves and their families (God forbid). I am sure just about everyone I know that carries, carries for the same reason...cause we refuse to be the victims (or a member of our family).
How long did it take for y'all to be notified that your application packet had been received after you mailed it to Austin? I couldn't believe that I did not send mine certified mail...I had a brain fart.

Re: July 2009 Applications
I had already submitted my application and had my PIN. I guess there probably is not a time difference in the end. I had thought for sometime before I became aware of the whole process that if I submitted online they would run the background checks and it would be 60 days and have a license. What a dream I was living! It's going to be a long 3-4 months.

Re: July 2009 Applications
im sorry , i was thinking you mailed it in like i did .Bakeek wrote:I had already submitted my application and had my PIN.
it still takes the same amount of time for DPS to enter it into the system .
so , after about a month (give or take a week) your status should change to "processing application"
then there's no telling how long until it changes to complete .
mine took 113 days from the day they received my app. to the day it was complete .

Re: July 2009 Applications
Jeez, is there that many people applying or are they just slow and lazy like most government jobs?
Let me guess...both?

Re: July 2009 Applications
After reading and watching others in the Waiting Room, I decided I ought to join the line. So first off, hello to those in the line! And it looks like it goes a long ways. Anyway, I have done work with several Texas State agencies over the years and I'm already prepared for the long wait. Gives me time to make all the other little decisions. And so it goes.

Thank you USA1 for your welcome. I look forward to sharing the wait with the line. Just hope that the July group has less pain than some of the other groups!

Re: July 2009 Applications
Just curious if you July folks have been checking May and June, the way I've been checking April and May for my June submission. The PIN did make me feel like I was making progress, but I've sure grown tired of seeing "Processing Application".

Re: July 2009 Applications
A little bit of good news on this Saturday morning. The application entered the processing phase! So the time from initial application to this step was very reasonable. I hope "they" like my photos and that my finger prints are satisfactory. One step at at time I suppose. However, I am not ready to revise my estimates on "plastic in hand", which is early 2010.
Back in line.

Oh gosh Viffer! Be optimistic! I expect my license to arrive sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm hoping sooner, like around Halloween, but not counting on it.

Re: July 2009 Applications
Hello Joe ... I'd like to be optimistic, but I know that during October, November, and December, government workers drop into a slower gear. And during November and December, almost neutral! At least that's the case with the 2 State agencies I work with. So I will try to be optimistic ... nay! What's the point? LOL
