JHP 9mm: Where are people buying it in DFW?

#1

Post by AggieC05 »

I am looking for a new JHP, as my current SXT supply is starting to run low. :grumble: so the questions stands:
What kind of JHP are you shooting?
Where do you buy it?
How much per round?

My ccw is a P11, that seems to eat about everything I throw at it.

I have enough to get my by for a little while. It just doesn't really allow me to shoot my carry ammo as often as I would like. So I was trying to see what is available right now, for what price, and which rounds seem to be reliable.

Buy from Cabelas online, it may take a week to get them but normally they have some in stock. I just bought some Hornady TAP, I haev never shot them so I want to see how they do.

Bass Pro in Grapevine had a slew of JHP 9MM last week. No range ammo. Clerk said they were starting to see a slow down in JHP but stil could not keep any range ammo on the shelves. He had asked the store manager to keep some back for sale to their in-house range customers but was told NO, sell it FCFS. I've only been able to go to the range once since getting my CHL because I can't find any 9MM range ammo. Maybe next month??

I bought 200 rounds of 9mm 115 gr ball ammo by Magtech at Cheaper than Dirt on Saturday morning, 2 days ago. They also had it in American Eagle, and Independence brands. The price for all three brands was $19.97 per box of 50 rounds, and they seemed to have a lot of it. I was also able to pick up practice ammo in .45 ACP, .40 S&W, and .223 Remington.

I'm certainly not their biggest fan, and CTD isn't the cheapest price around; but during the current shortage, they have always had ammo on the shelves every time I've been in there. Given that most other places don't seem to have ammo with any degree of regularity or caliber selection, maybe CTD's prices aren't all that bad. It kinda depends on how important your practice is to you...

Bass Pro in Garland had 9mm JHPs this morning.

For those looking for .380, WalMart, Academy nor Bass Pro had any. I did find .380 at B&S Guns in Mesquite. $39.99 for a box of 50 Blazer CCI and $49.99 a box of 25 Hornady Custom Defense JHPs. They had a pretty good supply.

The only place I've seen that has 9mm JHP in stock ALL the time is Bachman guns on Northwest highway just east of Harry Hines near Webb Chapel. They have ammo stacked in boxes in the middle of the floor....even have some original and new talons. Def worth the drive there.
