Ya know, I wonder... If I called one of my County LEO Friends, and had them run the county BG Check for DPS, and then mail it to Austin..

I wonder if they'd accept that

We do favors for the county all the time for work, and they have done quick BG Checks for us on some people we've hired.
Normally its just a "yea, they're clean" sort of response.. but, the other day we got a "I have 3 units en route, running hot, keep him there" response...

That was exciting...

Needless to say... he doesn't work here anymore

Hi everyone!

New to posting here but not a new reader. I just wanted to give some hope to the April applicants. I checked my status this morning and was elated to see it changed to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active."

FWIW, I took my class on 4/18, sent the packet on 4/21, and received the pin number in the mail around June 4. Hope to have plastic in hand by Friday. I work and live in construction central, er, Parker county, with previous residence and work in Tarrant county.

I'm a new applicant, not a renewal.

hi all, just wanted to let you all know whats been going on with my app..

Harris County
04.05.2009 : CHL Course Completed
04.06.2009 : Paperwork Mailed
04.??.2009 : Paperwork Received
04.??.2009 : DPS Cashed Check
05.??.2009 : PIN Received
06.02.2009 : Letter recieved to make corrections on app..dates
06.16.2009 : Sent info back certified mail
06.18.2009 : DPS signed and recieved info back
07.08.2009 : called dps and asked about status..they waiting for my return letter and info.. asked when they will get to info sitting there they signed for in approx. 1 month asked if they even started harris county background check,, got a ohhh., that will be 1 to 2 months on that...
07.09.2009 : thought about what to do to get this done as fast as possible..
07.10.2009 : called senetors and state reps and congressmen for the state of texas
07. 10.2009 : someone called back from one of the goverement offices and said they hired 35 people to do harris county background checks..asked if they talked to me before.. hehe lots of people calling in?
07.13.2009 : congressman gene green called me and said he is more federal.. this is a state issue.,,
07.15.2009 : Helper from Senator Mario Gallegos called and said she talked to dps and they said there are too many inquiries in my file..she said she will let someone from Representative Ana E. Hernandez office handle it.
07.15.2009 : Ruffeling up feathers in goverment.
07.15.2009 : Dps just called me and told me they were asked to call and give me the status update of my license..they asked if i knew about the detailed letter they sent me.. i said yes, i completed the information and sent it back in certified mail and someone signed for it and now im waiting... they said they never got it.. i said yes you did and i have the united states postal service showing you did... they said its lost somewhere i said well i did my part and paid for it.. they said they will see if they can find it, i asked who told her to call me and she said state rep ana hernandez. i said i will call ana hernandez and talk with her, they said they will have her call me or someone from there.. so i called instead and talked to david parnell and he said for me to email a copy of the recepts for the certified mail and he will get to the bottom of this... they way i look at it is i did my part.. they lost it... i have it documented they recieved it... i will push what i can.. this is bull

Wow....I'm impressed my passport arrived yesterday. I sent it off at the post office 6th July along with my Certificate of Naturalization, and both came back to me yesterday....9 days end-to-end.

Now...Austin, take a lesson from the US Passport Office please!

I am now at day 84 and thought I would be a glutton for punishment and called DPS to check on my status since my bg check had been in for more than a week. The person I spoke with remembered me from last week. I said that I was calling because I will be at 90 days next week and if I am not approved, I will have to file a request for a hearing. She emphatically said "no you do not". I said that the statue is worded in such a way, that it is automatically denied if not issued within 90 days. She said that It is not my fault that they are behind (I bit my tongue) so I do not need to do anything. She then said that since my bg check is completed, the technician just has to clear it. I asked what the technician has to "clear"? She told me that "it is waiting for her to clear it so that it can be printed".

So apparently there is only one person who can "clear" an application to allow it to be printed, as the person I spoke with twice referred to the person as "her" (a specific person). No ETA on how long this part would take.

I will not immediately file a request for a hearing once I pass day 90, but I will file one before day 120, unless Mr. Cotton's action comes first.

Or are they scared that we actually might hold them to the law?
