Huhh?
Yea, I was as confused as you were when he said "proadoption" to me and then drove off. I am guessing that I presented him with information he was not aware of or my great debate tactics were too overwhelming "rlol" "rlol"

In retrospect, I should have done what one of the posters suggested, which was to simply ignore him, but at the same time, how do you change minds? My hope was that he would go home and the comments would serve as a stone in his shoe. He would investigage what I was saying to "prove me wrong" and then changed his mind. To steer this back to guns, if someone is anti-gun, how do you go about changing their mind? You can say that its their tough luck, but in the US, everyone gets a vote. The "only" way to get them on your side is to educate them. the only way to educate them is to talk to them....

Some of the responses in this thread are embarassing and childish.

You spit on Obama cars? You have political "discussions" with people in traffic?
"And that's why you carry 24x7" so you can "defend" yourself from people that disagree with you?

This is exactly the kind of garbage I left California to get away from. It's nice to be reminded that it exists here, too.

How do you change minds? You change minds by emulating Jesus, Buddha, Ghandi, and Martin Luther King, NOT by emulating an idiot teenager.

As someone that's educated quite a few liberal anti gunners, I'll tell you exactly how, in a nutshell.

1) Listen to them
2) understand what they are concerned about
3) patiently explain that their concerns are valid, and why you don't agree with them
4) Don't act like a loud ignorant fool.

That's how I saw the light, that's how the 40 or so people I've explained pro-gun ness to saw the light, and how more will continue to see the light.

I wouldnt imagine spitting or damaging someone elses' property. I am sure that you are referring to another poster. In retrospect, ignoring the person would have been "better". I just think that a person that thinks it should be legal to murder a child is someone that doesnt have their head screwed on straight....and being able to defend myself against people like that is the reason I carry 24x7. There is a difference between disagreeing and thinking its Ok to shove a steel tube into a human's skull and suck her brains out....I hope you'd agree with me.

As someone who HAS studied Jesus, Buddha, Ghandi, and MLK jr., outside of JC, I dont know if your advice is sound, but I'll assume that you were thinking the "good" things about them

Glad that you have followed your 4 fold plan to convince people of your ideas, especially #4. :coolgleamA:

Yeah, I'd say that's a Democrat neighborhood all right!
Sounds like a Republican neighborhood to me.

Nah. My neighbors work for a living and pretty much keep their view to themselves. If they're standing out in the street, they're probably waving and offering you a beer. Oh, by the way, this is not an all white neighborhood, and I have yet to see a burning cross on any front lawn.

The Republican's are taken over by fear? I guess it was only a matter of time for it to migrate from the Democrats. That whole "the sky is falling, global warming" issue comes to mind. The same goes for ignorance, bigotry and smear. And speaking of bigotry, what exactly do we call it when one generalizes negatively about one particular group of people; say... Republicans?

By the way, I'm not a Republican, but I tend to vote that way. I detest both parties, but to demonize one without the other is the pot/kettle scenario. I hold the Republican voter in high regard, but the party is worth slightly less than a bucket of pig slop. The Democrat party is worth about half that.

Wasn't it just this past week that a prominent Republican accused the Cambridge police department of stupidity and racism without knowing the facts of the case?

Oops, my mistake, that was our Democrat racist-in-chief.
I will add, as a fifth circumstance in the situation of the House of Representatives, restraining them from oppressive measures, that they can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as on the great mass of the society. - J Madison, Federalist #57
