You just need to make sure that the firearm actually sits completely underneath your sight and is not visible.

Wouldnt that holster ( Kingston Car Seat Holster , 2nd one ) not be legal either since you can see it?
I have one , but I still curious I only have my gun in it while I`m driving , never leave it in there if Im not in the truck.

I agree. If a LEO were to pull you over for whatever and came to your window they could probably see it. Especially if they ask you to step out of the car.

I like usa1's idea of affixing a holster to the underside of the carseat. :thumbs2:

I think I like the under the seat idea. I'll have to poke my head under there and see what I have to work with - and I'm going to the gun show (yay!) next weekend so I'll see what they have that might work as well. I'm just a little nervous (especially now) about having it out and no way to quickly and safely secure it completely out of sight. I don't want to be in a "its legal until you get caught" situation. Even an empty holster between my legs would raise eyebrows, I imagine.

Maybe I can call a few PDs around the area and see what they think.

if you can secure it properly , it works well..its not in plain sight , yet just reach down and there it is.
it would be wise to make sure the holster has a thumbreak to avoid the gun from getting loose and ending up under the brake pedal.

I should have clarified: I don't actually own this deal, my best man's dad does. From what I understood, the holster can be slipped along the strap so that it's fully underneath the seat, and that's what I was advocating. But as I've never fooled with it, I don't really know.

A simpler method that I would endorse is to just get a good lockbox and put it under your seat, and secure it to the frame of your seat with a laptop cable lock. This is what I do, personally, because if someone smashes my window in, they'll have my gun in another two seconds if it's not secured. In a lockbox that's cable locked to something, well they'll have more trouble getting it out, maybe too much to deal with it. Also, the holster-strap deal might draw someone's attention if they know what to look for. A lockbox hidden under a seat is invisible. Here are two that I would recommend:

This is the one I have, and it works pretty well. I prefer the combo lock one, because then I don't have to take my keys out of the ignition to open it.

This is what I would like to upgrade to.

Probably very good advice!

I'll look into this also, or some variant. I don't have much clearance under the seat, so this will take some finagling before it is over. My glove compartment is lockable, but I don't know how secure it actually is.

I was also thinking about setting up rails under the seat that would let me slide a holster out and up between my legs if I want it that accessible, but could leave under the seat the rest of the time.

I was under the impression that the weapon had to be out of "casual reach of the driver." Meaning, he/she couldn't reach the weapon while driving without distorting their driving posture. Concelament is key.

If the driver is a gang member, a convicted felon, or committing a crime (other than a simple traffic offense) that may be true.

Otherwise, I don't know any reason it has to be out of the driver's reach.

Pretty sure that was the law before the MPA.

I believe this is the stipulation of the federal law that allows for the transportation of an unloaded, locked up firearm anywhere across the country by anyone (that's otherwise allowed to possess firearms), even through gun-control-crazy states and cities. But if you have a CHL, then you don't have to worry about this, unless you're in a state that doesn't have reciprocity.

I keep my glock wedged between the seats just like the pic shows except I keep a rag over it. With my heavy foot :biggrinjester: I have had many LEO encounters and never any problems other than with my speed. I work nights and am always out late at night by myself and I like having the gun within very easy reach especially when I have to hit an ATM.

On my holster I usually rotate it towards the front under side of the seat, I added a velcro strap to it so it wont fall out. Still playing with different ways on the seat. Also tried moving it side to side so its between the seat and console.Havent figured out which I like best yet.
