Have to show CHL out of state?
Was on vacation in Colorado and got this really bull speeding ticket (little towns are hurtin for coin, so stick it to the Texans ) and didn't show the CHL. That having to show the license thing only applies here in Texas, am I correct?

Sorry, I don't mean to offend, but not much sympathy regarding your ticket from me. If you were speeding and got caught, why are you complaining? Got any evidence that this is about this "stick it to the Texans" stuff? Why should Colorado traffic laws have a single thing to do with Texans? OTH, maybe small towns in Colorado really are very, very tired of Texans who blow through and act like the laws don't apply to them and have nothing to do with the public safety.Angus wrote:Was on vacation in Colorado and got this really bull speeding ticket (little towns are hurtin for coin, so stick it to the Texans ) and didn't show the CHL. You make your bed. You sleep in it. All I know is that, if someone from Colorado came blowing through my town of Grapevine with the attitude that our traffic enforcement had nothing to do with the safety of local residents and was really all about revenue and "sticking it to Coloradoans," I would hope that our local enforcement would reward the attitude with the fines it deserves.
As far as whether or not you are required to show your CHL in Colorado, I would say that depends on Colorado law, since that state's laws are what applies in your situation.
Here, let me google that for you. My search - which took all of 10 seconds, yielded the following: Colorado Concealed Carry Guide

Re: Have to show CHL out of state?
You need to go check out "Handgunlaws"...They have a section in each of the states breakdown of their CCW laws that specifically address the "Notify Law Enforcement" or "Must inform Officer" issue you are concerned with...
http://www.handgunlaw.us/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It looks like Colorado doesn't require a permit holder to notify an officer of the law of your "status"...
But, and you are free to use your own judgement on this...I would, upon an encounter where a Law Enforcement Officer officially asks "Who are you?", I would certainly let them review my ID and permit(s) to carry at that time...They will certainly ask you the obvious question at that time as well...So be cool, don't put your hand on it trying to describe where it is on your person (if that is the case)...
In most cases it doesn't become an issue when cooler heads prevail...
Just do a little research, know the state laws where you are going, heck, print them out and keep them in a little manilla folder to review on your trip...The more you do to understand these issues, the better you handle yourself...
