I found a how-to on the "interweb" about how to turn your standard home webcam into an infrared camera. I did it and I must admit it was very cool seeing light you've never seen before. I even noticed the IR port on my laptop was on and I didn't even know it!

But, on to my question. Does anyone out there know how to create a home-brew infrared light that you can use that's much "brighter" than the lights on, say, a TV remote? Researching the subject a little I have come across information that a regular home lightbulb puts off much more IR light than visible light, is there a way to wrap the lightbulb in some sort of a filter that blocks visible light and only lets the IR light through?

so I can shoot vaqrmints in my yard at night. Those store bought lights are way too expensive.

How do you plan on shooting something via IR? You have goggles to see it?

Jeez, come on, you should know better than that! IR = night vision. You can setup hidden IR lights and webcams for security puposes.

Security and guns go hand in hand!

Plus I just thought it was really cool seeing the light come out of your TV remotes.

Btw, here is the link. My creative webcam didn't exactly follow the instructions, instead of the IR filter being a peice of plastic or painted on it was actually a glass lens in there. I used a small screw driver to just break the lense and clean all the glass shards out of there and it worked great :)

To keep in on the gun subject. I would also like to pop varmints at night. Late night coyote calling is hard to beat! I'd love one of those ATN night vision scopes. Somehow making my 2 million candle power spotlight shine IR with a filter would sure be cool!!! There, how's that for gun discussion?
