The clock starts when they receive a complete application. The clock has no legal teeth.

They 'offically' have 60 days to process the application.

But, when does the 60 days start? I think they keep many (most) of our applications 'on stand-by' until they have time to start processing a new batch. I believe they keep large piles of application packets piled up, and our 60 day time frame begins when they get around to opening it. I have no proof of this, and to reduce delays, I sent in a cashiers check instead of a personal check. Sure, I could check the cashed date on a personal check, but I wanted to reduce any potential delays that might occure while they were waiting for a personal check to 'clear'.

I can only hope my application was as complete as I think it was, and look forward to receiving a PIN number some day. Anyway, it makes me check the mail box on a daily basis.
hi StewNTexas, when did you send in your packet? :confused5
it takes atleast a month to get your PIN. :waiting:
join in the appropriate month in "the waiting room" and post your dates :tiphat:

Timeline in my sig....104 days to Plastic in Hand.

I currently live in Dallas County. I had 4 years of Lubbock County in my last 5 years as well as a couple of months in Dallas County at the beginning of the 5 year window.

DPS said the holdup was the Lubbock County background check. (Dallas County was returned in under 2 weeks!) The DPS technician had to email the trooper in charge of background checks 4 times in a month to get him/her to go to the courthouse for the background check. I had the license within a week of the Lubbock County background check being returned. The excuses I heard were, "Waiting on Background Checks, 1000 new applications a day, Trooper in Lubbock county wont answer email, etc."

It did finally arrive, but it sure was a beat down. Thankfully I used some of my time waiting to educate myself on this site!

I had no issues whatsoever with missing paperwork and the application was complete when received.

I am willing to provide further information if needed.

Took the CHL class on Tuesday.
Dropped of the Packet at the DPS Office today. Spent some time talking with the nice lady that checked my Application out and took my Payment . She said the biggest surge on apps was from Nov Election to Dec last Year.

She said so many people are misinformed on the Length of time it takes to get the app done and License issued. DPS is doing their part in a timely matter and that it was the counties (ESP Harris) that were holding things up on the Background checks.

She told me it could take up to 120 days from Today to get my CHL :totap:

welcome TexaswhenIdie ,nice to meet you

do you live in Austin ?.... since you dropped off your paperwork there.
if so , that would be better than living in Harris County.
some folks here have been waiting 130+ days so far.

Apparently it isn't just Harris county anymore. Collin County at 121 days and still waiting. They won't tell me the hold up but don't think it was county as my wife has had hers for 4 weeks now.

I called about my renewal today, I gave them a little grace period, and the young lady I spoke to told me my license had been issued but that it was out for printing and she couldn't tell me how long it would be before it came.

She didn't want to discuss the longer than statutory 45 days, she just said they were running "A couple months."
