The bullet trap???

I was up there a little before noon to pick up something and the place was a MADHOUSE. lol Will probably go during the week instead, at least until the gun buying craze slows a bit.

It's been packed every weekend, there's been waiting lines to get a lane. Did notice they're starting to up their prices, AR mags are now $40 up there. :(

I just found out last weekend that they don't allow shotguns. Had to go to Garland Public Shooting Range.

This range is pretty close to my home, and I took my CHL class there. In my opinion it's a great range.

They're still doing some remodeling...right now they're re-doing the bathrooms. When I took my CHL class we had to all line up to use the four porta-potties out back for "coffee disposal".

I was really impressed with their selection of firearms, and the prices seemed reasonable, although the ammo prices are a little on the high side. (Typical range prices)

All in all I like the place, and I bought a membership.

I shoot there 1 - 3 times per month and I like it. I don't have much to compare it to because it is the only range that I've ever used, but I think that the staff is great. I took my CHL there and Dave was the instructor. He's a good man and did a great job with the class. I also took a handgun class there a few years ago and it was worth it for a handgun newbie. (Until that point in time, rifles and shotguns only.)

I've never been there to shoot on a Saturday, but I've been there on a couple of Sundays and was able to get a lane without a wait. Thursday nights are very busy because they have some classes on Thursday nights. I've taken my wife several times on Friday and we did not have to wait.

I've only shot rifles there once, and it was because we were "testing" (playing) with a friend's MP5 and his new AR-15. 25 yards is a bit short for rifles though.

I think that they have a great selection of firearms for sale and a very good selection of sidearms for rent. That has helped me to try before I buy a few times. The staff has been very helpful.

I've had a membership for a couple of years and will continue to go there.

I just bought my new Springfield XD-M in .40 S&W from the Bullet Trap this past Tuesday. I like the fact that they are a pretty decent gun store, in addition to being a range. I shopped around and their price for the XD-M was very reasonable, especially when you consider the discount you get from being a member. Their price for the XD-M was about $100 cheaper than Academy. Also, I agree about the staff being great. Some gun ranges are full of wanna-be Rambo types, but I've found the staff at the Bullet Trap to be very down-to-earth and knowledgeable.

Anyway, I bought my pistol during the day, but I had my infant son with me so I could not immediately "break it in". However, I went back that night about 7:30 pm and had no problem getting a lane right away.

(I'm really loving the new XD-M by the way! Shoots like a dream, easy to clean, and a lot of gun for your money!)

Congrats on the new gun . I bought my Kimber from them last week. I could have saved maybe 50 bucks buying elsewhere...if anywhere else had the one i wanted...but like you I believe they are a pretty good shop and it is nice to have a range in town to shoot at. I figure I am supporting the local economy with my extra 50 dollars.

Yep, I did my homework, and although I perhaps could have save a little money buying elsewhere, the prices at the Bullet Stop were very competitive, and I want to see them stay in business. I think one of their best things is their HUGE selection of rental/trial guns. I made up my mind I wanted a Springfield XD-M .40, but I know I could've gone there and rented a Glock 23 and XD-M .40 and compared them against each other.

The guys at BT bent over backwards to help me get in a CHL class. I've always had good interactions with the guys behind the counter. The only negative for me is how ridiculous their prices on EBRs have gotten since the election. And I'm talking relative to other current prices. But their prices on handguns seem to be in-line with current market values.


On a different topic. I see we have two members named Mojo from Plano who joined in February. For the record, I am the evil Spock.

I've shot at the Bullet Trap several times and got my original CHL there - a super place to shoot. A work of caution about the ammo that you can shoot there. My Son was going to shot his pistol there yesterday. From the past I recalled a problem I encountered there with them allowing 45 ACP lead bullets. So, I asked him to call to find out the details. They responded that FMJ and jacketed hollow-points are OK, but no lead - as a prior post had mentioned. Another prior post had mentioned they got a pass shooting lead. So, I don't know just how strict they are with the lead bullets - just beware that trying to shooting lead there could be a problem. All my Son had was lead, so he went to Bass Pro instead - they don't care what you shoot.

A word about the lead bullets. I can see why they want to limit lead bullets. The ventilation there may not be capable of removing a lot of lead from the air. They told me not to take my bottled water into the range area. I thought it was due to them worrying about someone spilling food. Nope. They told me it is because their is enough lead in the air that food and drinks will absorb it. I can only imagine how thick it would get if lead bullets are being fired.
