As far as I know, there is no ammo that is illegal to use in texas.

Texas laws don't specify what is legal, they specify what is not.

The only ammo illegal in Texas is ammo that is also illegal via federal law.

The "LEO ONLY" ammo is a marketing gimmick by the ammo manufacture, and usually by agreement from some stores that won't sell it.

PC §46.01(12) "Armor-piercing ammunition" means handgun ammunition that is designed primarily for the purpose of penetrating metal or body armor and to be used principally in pistols and revolvers.

PC §46.05. PROHIBITED WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs, or sells:
(7) armor-piercing ammunition;
I don't know what all of this means, but I am confident that no ammunition that I can buy at a retail store is illegal.

That sounds like a very good personal protection ammo choice, as long as your gun can handle the +p pressures.

I know I don't get out much but I've never seen armor piercing pistol ammo. I'm sure it exists but I've never seen it. Besides, I don't think it would be very effective on a normal BG who is not wearing any body armor. I don't see how there could be any appreciable expansion and I would then be very worried about a through & through & what else that bullet was going to go through before it stopped.

I don't think armor piercing as a normal carry ammo would be a very good choice.

Not just +p, but +p+. The manual for my S&W M&p 9c says I can use +p, but not +p+

This. :iagree: Oh and just because it says "LEO only" doesn't mean its better than other brands.

Federal Tactical HST would be a much better choice than the Hydra Shok.
