Email to DPS CHL
HAas anyone here emailed DPS about the status of you chl and got a reply??? I have emailed them 3 times and no reply 85 days and still waiting.

They answered my first e-mail 3 weeks ago with "still waiting on background checks". They have not responded to the one I sent this week.

They haven't responded yet to my request of one week ago. I'm "only" 43 days in (from PIN assignment), but I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a status update. If everything is 'on schedule', I should have my plastic May 8. But I'm not too optimistic right now...

i called on mine last week and she said it was still in processing and if i was counting the days I was wasting my time and driving myself crazy, that it would get done when it got done. kinda rude about it also -- oh well

I've gotten email replys quickly about password hiccups. I think they probably try to limit time replying to 'where's my chl' or status type emails. Do you want them spending 3hrs a day answering those or working on processing?

Don't kid yourself. The people answering the phone or emails are not the people processing CHL's. Anyone that is past 60 days from the time DPS "receives" their application, and has not had an incomplete package issue, should definently be calling and emailing. If one has followed instructions and done everything as they are required by law to obtain their CHL then the state (DPS) needs to uphold their end by processing the application within the 60 days allotted. Their web site says "You may contact DPS at 1-800-224-5744 for more information". Telling you that your application is still being processed is not "more information" its the same information. Be nice but make sure you're a squeaky wheel.

yea but whats suppose to happen and does is way different. i have called twice and both times quick simple "still processing -- thank you -- goodbye" -- we end up having to accept their excuses. -- but they sure dont care to even start to hear ours -- lol --- im closing in on 90 days.Allofus123 wrote:Don't kid yourself. I wouldn't say I'm kidding myself. I would say I'm making a reasonable guess as to why there is no immediate response to that question as I've received immediate replies before on other topics. You make a good point that the people answering phones are not the ones processing. Fact is, there isn't an immediate response, CHLs are backlogged, Austin is slammed.
We don't like waiting this long. They don't like answering the same thousand questions a day.

I am sorry to tell you that is incorrect! The processing time is not when DPS receives your application. It begins as soon as your status changes to processing! Start your count down from that date. I spoke with a DPS represenative and he told me it usually takes 30days once they receive your application to begin the processing. Sorry for the bad news...I did receive mine in less then 60 days once DPS changed my status to processing. My processing started on March 4th, received license in hand April 17th. Do the math......

Are we 100% sure of that? I ak cuz , by that rationale, they could sit on an application for 90 days before beginning "processing". Again according to DPS that is what he said. I believe in the DPS hand book, it mentions up to 180 days to receive your license. Maybe that is why they put that in there....I don't believe you or others will have to wait that long as long as you don't run into any application problems....mymojo wrote:Are we 100% sure of that? My second email was finally answered. My app was sent to a technician for further review. Then the tech emailed me to say they were still waiting on background checks. I guess I shouldn't expect any change anytime soon.

I got a response to my April 15 question from them yesterday. Finally. Typical boilerplate: "We are waiting on the printing of your license. Thank you for your patience."
I'd be more sympathetic if they'd buy a bigger/faster/newer printer!

While "someone" from DPS may have told you your assertion they are misinformed. The code does not read that the time starts after an application status changes to processing. It says very clearly that the time for DPS to review the application and do the background checks starts when the application is received and complete. RULE §6.13 Application Review and Background Investigation

(a) Applications must be complete and legible. If an application is not legible or complete, the department will notify the applicant of the deficiency. The applicant will have 90 days from the date of the deficiency notification letter to amend the application. Upon written request, the department may extend the period to amend the application for one additional 90 day period. After the period to amend has expired, the application process will be terminated. An individual whose application has been terminated under this subsection will be required to submit new application materials and fees to apply for a license in the future.
(b) Time to review application and complete background investigation. The statutory time periods for the department to conduct application reviews and background investigations shall be measured from the date an application was received and complete. An application is not considered to have been received until it is complete.
