That's what I'm talking about! Let's all stay away from the gun shows for awhile and let our free enterprise market correct itself. Pass the word.longhorn_92 wrote:My question to everyone is why?....
Why do you attend gun shows anymore - when there are Little to No deals anymore?
** ammo is outrageous - you can still find better deals online and when available - Wal-Mart or Academy has better pricing.
** EBR's are way out of line as well as AK's
** All you get is frustration, long lines and headaches ... to walk around and see all of the Sham Wow (Not So Wow) sales guys, the beef jerky tables, the tall tales of wanabe Viet Vets telling outrageous stories (no offense to the REAL VETS) and the smell of roasted nuts...
All that and 7 bucks of wasted money - wishing that you should have stayed home and saved time, money and effort by buying from a trusted fellow CHL - FTF.
Gun Shows are a joke right now...

I would buy whatever I could afford. Guns and ammo are a better investment than gold CDs or the Dow

I appreciate you calling me that. I like to think of it as an ant vs. grasshopper scenario.

Re: Ammunition at Saxet Gun show, Austin
I try my best to attend the monthly Saxet gun show in Austin. It is only $5 to get in. There is always some sling, tool, magazine, book, hard to find part, surplus junk, or gizmo that I need and can find easily. There are quite a few regular vendors that bring a museum with them; where else can you look at (and touch) an M1941 Johnson (sometimes), M1903A4, M-1 Carbine and M-1 on the same table? There are also the other old rifles I am less interested in like Mosin Nagants, Mausers, SKS etc. I am not into EBR's so I can't comment much, but it seems all the "Barbie for men" parts are there, you can look at them live instead of a grainy on-line picture.
There are deals on handguns, new and used. Remember Academy, etc only sell new.
If the ammo is too expensive at the gun show; don't buy it. Just hope Academy or Wal-Mart has some in stock on your way home. Academy and Wal-Mart don't stock the off-calibers or even 7.62x54R or .30 Carbine, so it is nice to be able to buy at the gun show if necessary.
The parking lot at the Austin Saxet gun show is usually a mad house since the building is shared with a mexican market. Half the vehicles in the lot are for the market. It is amazing to me to see two totally different groups getting along just fine sharing the same building. The news media would have me believe that gun owners and people with roots from south of the border would fight on sight. It may be true that an armed society is a polite society.

If it's the guy I'm thinking of at the Saxet show . . . tall, portly, curly hair under an OD hat, some extra parts & accessories on the table, usually has a gas trap Garand . . . watch it. He has TWO sets of gages for checking throat and muzzle erosion; he uses one set if he's buying, the other set if he's selling.jdm wrote: I try my best to attend the monthly Saxet gun show in Austin. . . .
