60 Minutes (CBS) talks about guns this Sunday, 4/12
I'm giving myself a migraine today by scanning the media for gun related stories. There are a lot, and they're mostly ugly.
The CBS 60 Minutes web site announces that they will air a report on gun buying/AWB/gun control this coming Sunday. In it, California Senator Dianne Feinstein (who helped author the previous AWB) says that the time is not right for a new "assault weapon" ban. But she added that she will definitely get around to it when she thinks the political timing is right.

Yes, Just caught this too in my Google Alerts... Here goes another ABC type story. The Mainstream Media will push hard for more gun control and I estimate this is just the beginning of their onslaught of 'commercials'. (Translate: Alleged news stories)

IOW, when "they" can stir up a bow wave of support through their liberal media lackeys AND we are not looking?"...she will definitely get around to it when she thinks the political timing is right.

Well, the 60 minute segment was not really too bad.
It presented several pro Gun points.
With the exception of Feignstien on there, and the Guy that bought the guns on the 20/20 show spewing his bull again, it was actually a pretty good and accurate report.

I just watched it and I must say it was more 'balanced' than the ABC report, but it seemed to be edited to give it a gun control slant.
I wish I could have recorded it to remind me of all the talking points.
The same kid that was at the gunshow on ABC's report was on this one. He is lobbying to close the gunshow 'loophole', but when it was mentioned that Cho, the killer at VT, did not buy his guns at a gunshow but bought them legally, he said 'the next 'Cho' will." And a girl who was shot at VT who was also lobbying for stricter gun control, admitted she was surprised that the gunshow loophole law did not pass even with emotion on her side. She also said she had support of Police Chiefs and parents.
When asked why she thought it didn't pass she said 'the gun lobby must have a strong hold on congress." or something to that effect.

I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

Yeah, they slipped in zingers all over the place.O6nop wrote:I just watched it and I must say it was more 'balanced' than the ABC report, but it seemed to be edited to give it a gun control slant.
And that was one of the zingers, not one person shown pointing out the the "loophole" is not, by definition, really a loophole.O6nop wrote:The same kid that was at the gunshow on ABC's report was on this one. Guys,
Surely you didn't expect anything less than a sensational expose` on guns and gun owners? The networks know that bad news and sensationalistic yellow journalism draws audiences and ratings. A pox on them and their houses!

This kind of shallow thinking hurts us just as much as the gun banners. Remember how well open carry did in Texas when opencarry.org alienated people that could have otherwise helped them? Same thing here.
You can watch the 60 minutes report here.
All in all, I thought it was a very well balanced piece, much better than that OTHER piece we've been talking about. They didn't make Mr. Van Cleve look like a wacko, and they didn't make the gun banners look like saints.

John F. Kennedy defined liberalism this way:Purplehood wrote:You might want to read the definition of a true "Liberal". Than again, you might not.TruckingDeals wrote:I don't have time to listen to a liberal's opinion about anything.

"If by a 'Liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal,' then I'm proud to say I'm a 'Liberal.'
However, I think the term "liberal" is used by many the same way people use the term a**h**e, a generic insult.
I might add that if being a good conservative is to be like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Colter, and Michale Savage, then I am a proud liberal. Too much hate from people like that.
Back on topic ( a little ) -
I watched 60 Minutes last night and 20/20 "If Only I Had A Gun" Friday night. Both were designed to sell the anti-gun agenda. I also listen to Rush and Mike and see Ann on cable channels. The more they talk, the more they hurt the conservative movement.
