Ruger 10/22 opinions

#1

Post by old farmer »

Morn' :tiphat:

I shot a friends 10/22 this weekends. I like like the weopen. (.22 lr) But there are few things that could be improved:
1. The latch for opening and release the bolt..
2. The trigger pull.
3. I like the wood stock but my size is 6 foot plus.
4. Sling
5. Scope
6. Magizines 10 shot, 25 sh0t, 50 shot.

I did a Google search which resulted in information overload. The after market is huge on the Ruger 10/22. What are the opinons?

Ruger 10/22 is the benchmark for all .22 semi-auto firearms

Can't go wrong with a 10/22, they are like the AR of .22's

They make extended mag releases, extended charging handles, different stocks, barrels, triggers, sights you name it.

The Ruger 10/22 is a GREAT gun! I've got a nice one with the colored wood stock, stainless steel and a little Simmons 4x scope. It's TOO MUCH FUN (and CHEAP!) to shoot! There are so many "hot rod" options for it. I've got a few of the high-cap mags and a speed loader for them. I went on a varmint shoot at a ranch in CO years ago, with my heavy-barrel .223 varmint gun, 20x scope, etc...got bored with that after a few hours. So, the rancher's son (with his bolt-action .22) and I (with my 10/22) went out and "prairie-dogged" all afternoon, some of the MOST fun that I've had shooting!

For a fun plinker type .22 does everyone like the 10/22 over the newer GSG rifles and pistols? I like the look of the GSG rifles, but that is an expensive little .22 and I think they feel a little cheap. The 10/22 and the Charger pistol seem very high quality compared.

The Ruger 10/22 is like the Honda Civic of 22 rifles. It's inexpensive and reliable but not very sexy. Some people spend lots of money to customize them but they work fine out of the box for most purposes.

Thank you for the opinions. I aquired a 10/22 with banner cope (eyes are old). It is a hoot to shoot. The ammo is cheap (shoot all day for $12). The best I can do is 1 inch groups at 100 yards. I may be able improve this with little bit of adjustments to the scope.

About a month or so ago I acquired one of the new Ruger 10/22's that come factory equipped with a Tapco stock. I outfitted it with a Butler Creek 25 round clip, an inexpensive NCStar scope, and a foregrip/bipod combo. I haven't had this much fun in years. Some think it's like putting a racing spoiler and huge tires on a Civic, but to me it's very cool.

I just bought this 10/22 at Carter's Country, it was on sale. I installed a 3x9 scope and a tactical light on the lower front rail, to say this thing is fun in an understatement. Just stay with Butler Creek or Ruger mags, the others are inferior IMO, especially the 50 round side by side clear mags, lots of malfuctions but none withe Steel Lips mags so far. I have lots of experience with 10/22 mags since I have an Intertec TEC-22 that uses them and Butler Creek Steel Lips are the best. It came with 2 stocks, an angled one like the pic and a straight one, I like the straigth one. I know it's overkill but it sure is fun :woohoo and my range has a .22 rimfire only range that is barely used so that makes it even more fun.

I totally dig my new Pink Ruger 10/22. I've had it about 2 months and have taken it to PSC 3 times so far. Only thing I would change is to have the hole for my thumb in the stock (I don't know what it's called). Those Rugers are so much fun to shoot.

I agree Skinny B78, I shot mine last night and had more fun than I ought to. If you see a big guy on a scooter, come say hi. So far I've had no trouble carrying a rifle over my shoulder to PSC, but I only live a mile away :coolgleamA: .

Here it is finished.
