The Academy at 410 and Vance Jackson had about 20 boxes of .223 Monarch Steel Cased on the shelf. I picked up 10. $6.29 a box (not a good price IMO, but they had it so I got some). THis was about 30 minutes ago.

FWIW:
As of noon today Academy in Shertz/Selma has about 25 boxes of Winchester Ranger 9mm NATO (LEO Only :eek6  ) for $21.99 each and 4 boxes of Winchester Super X 147 grain FMJ for $19.99 each as well. I bought 4 boxes of the Ranger :banghead:

Interesting side note:
All of the ammo price tags have been removed and what little ammo they do have behind the counter has been moved to the far left of the shelf where in the past it was organized by caliber smallest to largest, left to right. I suppose this means they are not expecting to have any stock in the near future...

I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this ammo situation. When I was at Walmart today looking for 9mm, the guy said the warehouse was out and he didn't expect any more any time soon. With all of the on-line places out of stock too, I have to wonder what the heck is going on. This has to be more than just hording. It's like there is already some super secret ammo ban in place or something.

Some dude at Wally World told me that same story two months ago....ammo seems to keep showing up. You just have to beat the other 80 gabillion ammo hogs to it....myself being one of them. :tiphat: When I catch them with ammo, I almost always get a case if they have it. My ammo needs are 45, 40 and 9mm, in that order. You figure if they get 20 cases of ammo in(and that seems like a sizable order to me), it only takes 8 or 10 folks to wipe it all out if they are each thinking cases instead of boxes. When you consider that 100's of people are probably hitting each wally world looking for ammo(and i bet it is more), your odds of hitting pay dirt are small.

Something I overheard a guy working at academy spewing. He actually told several different customers over the 30 minutes or so I was looking around the gun department, that a new tax law takes effect at the end of the year of 50% on ammo. He was using it as part of his story for why no ammo was in stock. It is ding dong stuff like that causing people to panic about ammo supplies.

Well after a couple months of going to Walmart and seeing no 9mm ammo, I finally came across 9MM ammo there, guess it was just pure luck. They probably had 2k rounds of Blazer Brass, I bought 15 boxes at 8.97/box and left the rest for next person, which I wouldn't be surprised if it was all gone within the hour.

When you look at the amounts that people are buying when they find it it is very believable it is a hoarding issue. There are some who believe that they need it because the end of the world as we know it is near, and others who believe it is an investment because the price of amm wil surely go up.

I hope both schools of thought are wrong.

I've been checking our Wal-Mart in Jacksonville lately. Today, at around 3:00pm they had a few boxes of various calibers. No 9mm, 40 or 45, though. I was particularly surprised to see a couple different brands of .223 ammo (I recall seeing Remington). They also had a good number of the 550 round bricks of .22LR in stock for around $15.

That's what I've been seeing at every Walmart I go to. They have .22 and .223 and no handgun ammo whatsoever. Strange because it seems like this time last year it was the opposite.

Made it to the wally world at 75 and spring creek in Plano tonight. I got the story about the warehouse being wiped out of ammo. He did say however that they are being told the shortage should ease up by June or July. he had no idea why, he just said that is what his superiors are passing down to them.

The Academy at Loop 410 & Military Dr had a bit of the NATO 9mm @ $19 for 50 (I passed). I also spotted about 3 boxes of the .45 Remington UMC bulk boxes (200 or 250 count) over on the far right side of the ammo shelf, partly hidden by a clipboard if anyone needs that.

Bass Pro was out of all the common stuff as were the Walmarts I passed. I did go ahead and grab a bunch of the bulk .22LR that Walmart still had, since that may be all I will be shooting for a while.

I just bought some Monarch Steel 9mm at Academy in Austin (183 @i-35) at $8.99 for 50; I was kind of reluctant as the last time I tried some, I had several FTEs, but it does beat nothing....they also had a few boxes of CCI in 40 and 45.....Back home last week, the guy behind the counter at Wally World ammo counter told me a similar story as related above - "the warehouse is out of ammo" and he didn't know when any would be coming in....At Academy in Mesquite last week, they were out of 9mm (except the NATO), they did have some CCI in 45 which I bought. The guy there said he gets 4 trucks a week and sometimes they have ammo on them and sometimes they don't....I have yet to see any explanation of what is going on with the ammo supply other than people are "just buying it up"...

I went to the range the other day and rationed the amount of ammo that I took with me. I'm trying to replace what I shot before I go to the range again.

While the "People are just buying it up" makes plenty of sense to me, What is disturbing is that there is no news on any efforts to relieve the shortage with increased supplies. One would have thought that there would be more ammo imported or manufactured to make up for the shortages. The news media isn't talking much.
