Do most (or all) high end guns require 200 rounds or so of "break in"? Or is this actually a manufacturing weakness in the ability to control tolerances?

I see it as proof of "tight" tolerances. The guns have a very tight fit, and you have to wear them in (think of the cowboy boots you have on). you end up removing some of the metal in some of the contact places, and that's what causes the gun to run better. Sure, you can spend 500 rounds "breaking in" the gun, or you can give'er the ol' Fluff N Buff, which for some people, achieves the same effect. ymmv
CNC machines leave very little room for error as opposed to hammering out a frame by hand, so I wouldn't say it's a manufacturing "weakness."

My wife has been fully into the vortex of 1911 lust. Not that I mind -- my next handgun will be a 1911 too, but she's got expensive taste! She really, really, really likes the Kimber Pro Carry II. All it took was 2 magazines through a Kimber Ultra Carry II and I knew by her grin that there was going to be no other style of pistol that would make her happy.

I'll be plenty happy with a more 'economical' model - even two! But she's seriously eyeing the top end. I had to go and tell her that since it's gonna be her gun, she gets to pick whatever she wants, and she'll get it.

Anybody wanna buy a couple of well trained kids? How about a dog? Need some plasma? Slightly used shoes? I need to have a serious garage sale!

Gently worn size 12 black dress shoes (I almost exlusively wear boots now) and two pairs of well-loved Justin Ropers (Black & Navy). Yours for the low, low price of $600 (OBO)! Think of them as 'vintage'!

The most expensive pair of shoes/boots I own are my Harley boots........around 100 bucks. They also serve quite well as dress boots with a good cleaning. I've got some dress shoes, but I think they were bought at a going out of business sale, and I wear those very rarely.

Also, folks....I'll have a range report on my Springfield by Monday, I plan on going to the range this weekend (if not before) and putting some rounds through it.

I haven't had a chance since buying it, because my grandmother's battle with cancer has taken a turn for the worse, and I've been spending whatever spare time I have at the hospital.

If possible though, Sunday I'm going to run to the range between visiting hours.

I know that this has been a long time coming...but the gun shot AWESOME!!

Cleaning it was a different experience, seeing as I'm used to my XD and M&P......the 1911 was a little more work, which wasn't a bad thing. I enjoy cleaning my firearms almost as much as I do getting the dirty in the first place.



Anyways....I didn't shoot further than 50 feet....but everything between 9 feet and 50 feet, the gun held excellent groups. I had to switch targets several times. I broke the gun down and cleaned it around 100-125 rounds, then fed another 100-125 through it. You could cover the vast majority of my hits on the paper with a Dr.Pepper can or a CD disc.

I love it.

How so, my 1911's perform just as well as my xd's and are much more accurate.

What is her email address? I will be happy to tell her how much I like my Les Baer! Right after that I will tell her about my favorite 1911 that my husband hand fit together with a good frame and bargain parts! The Baer is great but I can hit 8" steel at 200 yards with my "special" 1911. The moral of the story is that if the gun fits you and it works it is a good gun.

Good shooting! I can't even see 200 yards.
