Sheesh why is Alabama such a Nazi state when it comes to gun

I just looked over packing.org and you can't even carry a weapon in the car traveling without it being locked in a container. What a bunch of thugs.

I like Alabama, it's a good ol' Southern state like Texas in every other way, but shoot, it's the one state in the South that we don't have reciprocity with.

I am about to travel there next week to Mobile, but I don't want to leave my gun at home all week while traveling in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi because Alabama won't let a gun enter their police state. And I don't have a locked container and I don't want my traveling companion to even know I have a gun.

Get a NH non-resident license.

no time. I understand it takes 2 weeks and I only have 1. Besides I read in another thread here that there is even some question whether or not NH non resident licences are recognized in AL

Read down to the bottom of the page for the info.

http://www.ago.state.al.us/ag_items.cfm?Issue=64
At the present time, Act 2001-494 does not on its face specifically address the issue of Alabama’s recognition of a non-resident handgun license issued by a state with which Alabama has reciprocal recognition of concealed handgun licenses. Nor is there a formal Attorney General's Opinion, or Alabama case law on this subject. If an Alabama law enforcement agency requests and receives an official Attorney General's Opinion that opinion will be available to the public on our web site under the menu item titled "AG Opinions."

I'm originally from Mobile. My family still lives there and I travel there often. Here's what I found out when inquiring as to why there is no reciprocity between Alabama and Texas:

It's not Alabama. Their position is that they will honor any states license that will honor theirs. Texas will not honor Alabama's CHL because of it's "less stringent" handgun laws / licensing requirements.

Cheers,

Jason
